Just a quick questions. My SKS gets dirty far quicker than all my other guns even rimfire rifles running bulk pack ammo. I have had the rifle a little over a year and purchased it in unissued unfired condition (French tickler Chinese rifle). I meticulously cleaned all the cosmoline out. I have just about 600 rounds through the rifle of all Norinco non-corrosive red box ammo. I am religious about cleaning this rifle after every range visit because I don’t trust the non corrosive part.
My last outing I shot 60 rounds out of it. Brought it home and cleaned it the next morning. It was dirtier than normal, with hard to clean off carbon deposits on my gas piston and the bolt and chamber being heavily soiled, more than normal I’d say. Also found deposits of what I originally feared to be rust but seemed to be more the copper coating from the rounds. Gun function all day perfectly and accuracy was also quite pleased (was a great day where you feel you just can’t miss).
My question is more, Do Sks’s run dirtier than most or is it the ammo I’m shooting? And with a change in dirtiness from one range visit to the next, should one be concerned or am I just over analyzing. And lastly any one try PMC ammo in there SKS does it run cleaner (bloody better for near twice the cost).
