Hey guys,
Saw an sks at a gun show awhile back with what looked like a dragonav scope. Im not expert and the guy was asking near 2k for it so I passed it by. However I love she's and a military scopes version would be a crown jewel. Are they even real tho? Or is this a garage put together?

Actually depends what it is.

A real Yugo M59/66 SKS "Field Sniper" is going to be more than 2k. There is lots of info about them online. They are highly sought after in the USA.

They were made during the Yugoslav wars, and used by all sides in closer combat and heavy street fighting.

So yes, they do exist. And they are worth a lot.

Also, Russia made prototype snipers, and several are on display in museums.

Lastly, many U.S. Importers made snipers from Chinese SKS rifles, and they have become very collectable. Google "farmers friend SKS."

I would need to see pics of what it is. Could be something special, or not.

I purchased a book on Russian SKS's, and I am no expert by any means, but according to this book's author, there were never any Russian sniper rifles produced for distribution. Prototype only.

HA! Learn sumthin every day. :) Although, I think the odds of a random dude selling at a local gun show - HIGHLY unlikely, I'm sure you'd agree.

Yes this is true. It's likely a bubba special "sniper."

But real ones are out there.

Russia abandoned the idea because they said the SKS wasn't built for sniper accuracy, but they did make some.

You can find Yugo, Russian and Chinese snipers but yes they are very rare. Likely not something you just run into, but you never know. Always worth doing your homework just in case ;)

I don't care, an sks is an sks. They aren't sniper rifles or sniper rifle platform material. I get a laugh out of people with their Chinese is better than Russian non sense and thinking $550 is fair for a $200 rifle. The yugo sks might be a little better yes but not a $1000 better lol. The people that say yeah this rare sks might be worth $2000 would be the first to offer you $150 for it or kick tires and never buy it anyway. Stuff is worth what people pay , no one is buying this guys sks "sniper" for $2000 real , fake or whatever , period.

did it look like this?

Fake. Some importer in the U.S. (Navy Arms?) did a run of 59/66s with MOLOT rails and Romanian PSO scopes on them. Was the seller named Bruno? He got it from the U.S. originally

By your statement, why is it even worth $200?

Supply and demand dictate price. So does rarity. And certain SKS rifles are rarer than others.

Why is a Russian refurb K98 $600 but an all matching original nice German is over $3000?

Same reason a Yugo is worth more than a Russian, or SKS-D is worth more than a Chinese sks etc.

Point is, your opinion is just that, an opinion. We can all have one.

Feel free not to buy one, someone else will.

We all have an opinion yes , I can express mine just like you can yours and that's fair for sure. We are taking about this dmr sks here not German k98's with actual wartime history. I'm focusing on how this 2k dmr sks is not worth that real or fake. I bet you wouldn't buy it even if it was legit. And by the way I own/have owned a Russian, Chinese and yugo sks so don't assume what I have bought. Owning these 3 types of sks in my humble experience one is not a lot better than the other except maybe the yugo purely for fit, finish and overall build quality. My Russian sks actually shoots the best groups believe it or not.

^ Yes if youre talking about this "DMR" fake one, then yeah, its not worth much.

But a real Yugo DMR or Chinese "farmers friend" will fetch alot of money.

Here is a "farmers friend."

Here are some real "Ex DMR Yugo's."

The Yugoslav war DMR rifles are not very common in Canada and are hard to authenticate. They were never made by or fielded by any armed force in official capacity, they're just cobbled together.

The endless variety of scoped Chinese SKS rifles from the late 1980s and early 1990s have little to no collectors market in Canada and very few were brought across the line into Canada. They're just made up commercial guns. I wouldn't mind owning a few of them, though.

The only Russian variants are in museums, they were just prototypes because SKS "sniper" doesn't make a whole lot of sense with a round with an effective range of 300m and a 3 MOA rifle to go with it.

To touch on the recent trend of Yugoslavian SKS rifles being listed at and/or selling for over $600 (I've seen $1000-$2000). It's absolutely hilarious. Yes, many of them were in unissued condition but they offer absolutely no advantage over a Russian or Chinese rifle in unissued condition and Yugoslavia is not really known for manufacturing high quality firearms. The recent imports (SKS, M48, etc) may look nice but that's as far as it goes. I sold all of my Yugoslavian SKS and Mauser rifles and couldn't be happier. Sometimes the EE is more like "supply and command" than it is "supply and demand".

Interesting, I guess a battle DMR is just an accurate one that has been adopted in battle as a DMR & scoped etc in the field? As opposed to more sent from the factory that way?
I was wondering if you, or {anyone} knows if this is true: I read on a forum that in the Russian factories, they would test fire the SKS's, & the most accurate SKS's would have a '1' stamped in the front part of the front site, & a 2 or a 3, depending how accurate the rifle was. Also, I have a non-referb. 55/56 Tula, that the barrel is Not chrome lined. This SKS is extremely accurate, it happens to have that '1' stamped on the front part of site as well :p.. just wondering if anyone has heard of NON Chromed lined in those latter dated TULA SKS's, or about that 1,2 ,3 thing. Thanks in Advance..

Valid points. Totally agree.
