I did that to an SKS-D that I sold a while back. My current SKS is stock.

Went through the same thing with my 10/22's. Had a couple that were pretty built up until recently. Now my current 10/22 is stock. LOL.

I'd have to dig out the pics, and don't really want to hijack your thread...but I modified my first one when Nordic Components was still selling their kits (before Ruger released the SR-22), and a Jim King barrel from the US, before the BATF went crazy with the ITAR stuff. Jim King basically takes factory Ruger barrels, and then modifies them to have the M4 contour and utilize a regular A2 front sight block, birdcage FH, and M4 furniture. Spent a bunch of money on it...lol.

gas tube optic mount is not the best, wont hold 0 (assuming the optic even will) but its not a precision rifle anyway

The gas tube mount never worked for me. I went with a BC tactical scout mount. Very solid for mounting RDS.
