SKS Dragunov SVD Conversion, parts, info, links?

Hi there.
I have a POSP scope that I bought with a rifle recently,

I have always been a bit obsessed with the SVD, and now that I have a scope for one, I was hoping there's a way to make at least a fake version of it for my own satisfaction..

I saw recently on the EE boards, an SKS for sale that was "sort of a SVD copy"
the rear, and body were pretty good, the barrel was way too sort of course and the forewood wasnt at all right,
but it REALLY sparked my curiosity..

Is there a way to make an SKS quite close to an SVD?

that is to say, the ak top place, the stock, , my scope, etc,
but the hardest thing seemingly is a very long barrel and the forewood,

Is such a thing possible?
an SKS with enough parts, and even a long barrel and forewood to be SVD-like?

If anyone could be so kind as to provide me with a parts list (if they know what's needed),
a website detailing this project,
or definately if they have a kit of parts or a complete SKS-SVD copy for sale (but without a scope of course,)
i'd be extremely appreciative..

The PSOP scope mounts way way too high on an SKS reciever but looks pretty good on the CZ 858 I did last year. It mounts low enough to be usefull as well.

I remember someone on the forum fitted an old P-14 barrel, chambered it for 7.62x39 and had it mounted on an SKS. It would be pricey, but it could be done. If your willing to spend a bit of money on a novelty item, anything is posible.

Maybe there is a mini-SVD type scope mount built for the SKS meant to copy the real one? There is a Dragunov look alike stock out there, so optics and mounts aren't too much of a stretch. Have a look around. Google is your friend, as well as E-Bay/E-Screw/E-Pay.

I'll agree with the others and say the CZ-858 would seem to be the easier option. It would replicate the looks better than an SKS because the reciever isn't already surrounded by a wood stock, or meant to be so. It already has a longer barrel as well.

While the 858 would cost more up front, it may be cheaper in the end to do it over the SKS. You could just slap on an ATI Dragunov stock on an SKS and be done with it, but if you want it to look good you would need a custom steel reciever cover to make it look better. Much like in the way people have turned SKS-D's into AK look alikes.

The cheapest way to do it would be to use the SKS. This is an SKS-D with a Choate stock modified to fit the D model, receiver cover mount with the tension bolts drilled and tapped to the receiver and a custom made muzzle break.

yeah I'd tend to agree now that I think about it.
an SVT-40 does make a lot more sense.
especially considering that the POSP scope is designed for the 7.62X54r round..

I think I'll find a bubba'd SVT-40 and work from there..
because yeah..once I have that, what do I need to do..
longer barrel (probably the hardest aspect)
forewood (SVT wood could probably be trimmed and altered even to look correct)
top metal (pretty easy)
stock (find-able, and maybe just some fitting involved)
altered mag appearance (not even really necassary unless I go a bit obsessive crazy)
and my scope (gunsmith could just mount the mount..easy)

The SVT-40 and Drag are completely different rifles, I don't think this one is going to work out my friend... I agree that the 858 would be the best base to start with. (besides a velmet)
 
I am also a fan of the Dragunov, it is a magnificent small-arms design, it's a damned shame it's prohibited. I have never seen an err... clone that looked anything like the Dragunov. Sure, some of the basic parts can be there but they never have any soul. No offense intended, this is just my lowly opinion. :D
 
There was a modified version of SVD called Berkut that is non-restricted in Canada and takes SVD mags. There are only 5 in Canada, so good luck finding it.

You see, SVD is listed as variant of AK, but it's only external cosmetic relevance, not internal (unless it's ROMAK or some Yugo rifle, which is basically big AK). So if you take a rifle based on SVD that doesn't look like SVD (to some extend) or AK, there is no way you can say it's prohibited as variant of AK47.

The same story was with Berkut, they wanted to prohibit it, but couldn't as they couldn't related it to AK47/AKM. External design wasn't AKMoid (different furniture), internals are SVDoid, which are not the same as AK47/AKM. RCMP had to rate it as non-restricted...

im still like to convert my sks-d to a svd clone, i have a "D" with a 20" barrel without the front sight so with a flash hider it will be 23.5" long also the barrel looks longer bcos the gas tube is an inch shorter.

i have a romak stock and there is no way i can adapt it to a sks-d , i have much better success with a cz858 . i'll be done once my posp scope arrives. stay tune.

i heard the ATI dragunov stock for SKS are scrap , choate are much better.
