Hey folks,

Frontier Firearms has an SKS Duck Bill Magazine made out of steel. It's pinned at 5 rounds and supposedly has a 30 round capacity. I have provided a link to the site:

http://www.frontierfirearms.ca/inde...ct_info&cPath=38_523_525_704&products_id=3674

It's $90 which is a lot of dimp to me for a magazine... not a clip... a magazine which can take cartridges from a clip (dark humor from another thread). Either way, has anybody tried these or know of any pros and cons. I'm not hot and horny to get one... yet. I just want to piss off a Liberal.

ive tryed one on an sks before and it really didnt work well. The bolt release would open while loading rounds in from a stripper clip, bad feeding and for some reason the one i had would hold six rounds (some one didnt do a good job of pinning it).

I have since upgraded to a tapco t6 acrylic mag and its flawless. I know they arnt retailed in canada as tapco doesnt seem to make and extended 5 round mags. I had to buy a whole rifle to get the mag at a gun show!

i put my sks in a tapco stock, then i installed the mag later, other then the fact it's perm attached its great, but while it's attached it takes up 327ft in my safe, feels sturdy, took a few minutes to get it installed proper, but i have 0 complaints.

You may want to take a look at the Tapco 5/20 offered by some dealers/individuals on this forum.

Works well for me, 100% reliable after a few hundred rounds.

Can be fed from a clip/open bolt, similar to the original fixed mag. However, I had a couple of feeding problems when loaded this way since the cartridges were not properly aligned in the magazine.

Loaded outside the rifle, the Tapco 5/20 mags are reliable. Requires minor fitting into the standard Russian stock, about 15 minutes. Runs about $50-60 bucks each.

Have sold over 1000 of the metal 30 rounders so far and no complaints. I always tell people that the stock magazine is married to your rifle and any other magazine is not, so minor fitting or filing will be required to fit "your" rifle. I wish the SKS was made like an AR where it had a specific mag well and all magazines were exactly the same.

I have tried many branded and no name metal duckbilled mags over the years . Some work right out of the box and others do not. What I have found that the metal mags do not stand up over time. Problems like broken spot welds, bent feed lips and followers. If you want a SKS duckbilled mags that have no problems that I have found, go with TAPCO mags. If you do have a problem they have a lifetime warranty.

Which is excellent if you live in the U.S. They won't honor it anywhere else.

I'll warranty these mags for a year under normal use, and they are here in Canada and I know my supplier will warranty them as well.

It took me a lot of fitting into one of my Russian SKS, had to sand the stock magwell down on both sides and then also the mag itselves at the latch area. But after doing that, it is really sweet, just a lot of fitting.

How do those Tapco's actually work? Do you put the "pointy" end in and rock the magazine back, or is the "pointy" thing an adaptor and the magazine works like an AR mag?

I'm curious because I might want to buy some for the hell of it - and to piss off a Lieberal!!!

Are they pop-riveted or did Tapco do something internal like they do for their 10 & 15 rounders?

Standard pop rivet.
They work perfectly fine and look great with a Tapco Stock.
