SKS - Duckbill Mag problem

Is the hold open even still in the rifle ?
Can you pull the mag out and snap a picture from the top side and rear ?
I just finished messing with my hold open to make it function with an xcr mag.
i am curious if you might be able to do something with your rifle or the mag to get it working .

Messing with that mag should be fine as long as it dont affect the 5 round capacity

The issue is that the hold-open is more a feature of the mag than of the rifle. Here is a picture plagiarized from elsewhere on the net. SKS factory mag on the right. Note the pin on the factory follower that locks the bolt open. The duckbill doesn't have that.

Totally different setup, but I notice that your follower has a ramp cut into both the front and rear. That what I want to do with this duckbill.

Yea i know it is totaly diffrent , I had to modify my stop by shortining the catch and thinning the main body of it.

I bet your could be modifyed to work with your mag as well.
To bad you dont live near me , i would give it a go.

If your follower is not hollow I would go for it.

Just wont hold open when you fire the last round.

I like mine to stay open , it tells me i am out.

I recently purchased one of the metal mags from Westrifle. Installed it, and it's now sitting in the bottom of a storage locker. It didn't fit well, or was I able to load rounds without a struggle. The original is back in and will remain there. Really should have spent my $60+ on ammo instead.

Just my 2 cents

the tapco one are way better than the metal mag i have , the metal amg look nice but are not reliable like the tapco ,

Sell it and buy a Tapco. They can also require some minor filing to fit and function, but after doing that I haven't had issues with any of the four that I own.

Lord love a duck, if anything annoyed me more was the metal magazine. I had the same issue except that the lips caught the bolt so I could never even chamber a round. Worst money spent in a while.

The Tapco mags, though, never gave me a problem right out of the package.

I can't believe you haven't filed it yet?!? It's not going to solve itself now is it, you could have filed it down and had a "yes it works, or no it's still ####ed" answer by now...

If filing it doesn't solve the problem just toss it back on the shelf or in the blue bin for another 15 years for christ's sake.

This may in fact be correct , sure looks like it was no mistake that the follower was made that shape

Keep in mind that:

- the bolt is more than half closed at this point
- I am physically holding the bolt under pressure for the picture. Were I to release the bolt, even gently, the mag would be fubared.
