SKS ejection issue

After taking apart and cleaning my SKS I get about 20 rounds before it no longer ejects the spent cartridge. It either jams with about an inch of the cartridge showing at an angle like it was caught halfway out or it jams closed where it takes a lot of force to open the bolt carrier up(smack handle against table) to remove the spent cartridge.

My thoughts:
1) Not enough gas to push carrier back all the way (replacement?)
2) Spring it too strong preventing the carrier from coming back all the way (maybe cut some off to reduce pressure?)
3) Cartridge slipping off extractor (cleaned it well, no effect)

My thoughts don't explan why it worked for the first 20 rounds though. Anyone experience something similar? or have another idea?

Thanks

I did when I first got mine, after about 80 rounds or so it started jamming every one. I took it home, thoroughly cleaned the gas system with the rest of the gun, and haven't had an issue since

Make sure that the spring that sits in the bolt carrier is in correctly, with the stright end towards the back, and zigzag part inserted into the bolt carrier. I've heard that people sometimes have a problem of this nature becuase the spring is in backwards.

Beyond that, i would do the following:
1)triple check the chamber is nice and clean - try a larger diameter brass brush and some bore cleaner.
2)double check that the bolt slides cleanly within the receiver and doesnt bind on anything

I suspect this is nothing that a thurough cleaning won't solve. Good luck.

Had the similar problem the first time I took out my SKS. Good cleaning seem to have helped. I still need to clean firing pin though.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I cleaned the chamber with a shotgun brush and it seems to be working again. I'll put 100+ rounds through it this weekend and really put it to the test.
