One of my refurbed SKS rifles fails to fire a few rounds out of 20. The bolt and firing pin have been disassembled and well cleaned. The firing pin is leaving a healthy dent in the primers. The rounds discharge when re-chambered and fired again. I have no problem with the same ammo in my other SKS rifles. The rifle causing the problem is one of the painted ones. Incidentally, this rifle is more accurate than my blued SKS refurb.

So wazzup?

I guess it could be a weak hammer spring so I could try stretching it. Or maybe the trigger group is gummed up a bit with the paint sprayed on it. I'm not thrilled at the thought of disassembling the trigger group, polishing all contact points and re-assembling but will if I have to.

What do you guys think?

What do your cartridges that fail to fire look like is the primer marked? Possibly your action is not fully opening causing your firing pin to not work. I would also check your gas port for residue build-up thus causing your action to not fully slide open after each shot. If your spent shells have good dents in the primers I would suspect your firing pin is fine.

I had this exact same problem. I bought a crate of 1150 from a gun store in vernon and it would have about 1 in 10 duds. Totally good hit to the primer and would fire again when re loaded. So I bought a 2nd box of 1150 from a store in merritt. Not a single problem with the box from merritt in over 400 rounds. It is totally to ammo primers in my opinion. I just went through and wrote 100% on the good boxes. I also notice way way way better accuracy with the ammo that does not have duds. I did not have a 2nd gun to try the crappy ammo in as a test.
