SKS Fascination

You don’t count curtton, I think we all know where your obsessions lie :D
If it wasn’t for you and CGN I wouldn’t even own one and have 3 more on order.
You created my interest in these SKSs, and for that, thank you, thank you very much.

What make is the top one with the black bayonet?

Nice collection BTW...

thanks.

the rifles are in the order of age , top is the oldest so its has to be a russian tula 1954 refurb , came to canada via the USA cos it has ugly american importers stamps and cyrillic translated letters stamp near SN.

I tried staying away from them, for quite awhile. I would check the big thread every now and then, just mainly for the heck of it. I even fought the urge to call Epps when they got the first shipment. Then Val and curtton put some kind of vodoo/ju-ju hex on me,and resistance from then on out was futile. I stopped by Epps 4 days after their first shipment just to take a look,as i normally do if I'm in the area. I was on my way home from picking up a gun in Bolton. Well I ended up picking up a Russian refurb, but not one of the new shipment ones. That started me down the road to looking for certain types. I'm still looking for that Holy Grail of Russian SKSs,the un-issued Izzy and an un-issued side rail star marked Tula with an original laminate stock and handguard. If I happen across a couple of other interesting ones along the way,I might just add them too. Here I thought I was done with mil-surps. But if there's one thing I've learned with guns, never say never.....................

I want a sks-m(i think) with one of these.
I think curtton posted the first pic I've seen of it.

A high quality old world construction solid technology easy to use hard to break combat accurate cheap to shoot carbine from the Soviet Union not a mouse gun that doubles as a club or spear.

They will long outlive our existence. OOOORAH!

me too.

Was the bayo painted black because it was refurbed, or did some of the bayos actually come that way from the factory?

as far as i know all black bayo are from refurb . i dont believe any black bayo are original altho i like to be proven wrong , that just makes thing more interesting.

When your buying a 7.62x39mm firing semi automatic rifle that costs under $300, goes bang everytime you pull the tigger, ammo available by the crates, why would you ever only buy one?!

Russian, Norcs, Early Chinese, Yugo M59, Yugo M59/66, ect.
Plus different factories from the same country & different manufacturing techniques in the same factories at different times.
So there are some differences that can be found in rifles from the same factory during different years.
I think a factory spring loaded firing pin from Russia would be neat to have.

Ditto

North Korean should be more impossible-er.

Damn I want that too... I want an SKS from every place it was made.

I'm freaking addicted to this.. I think it's the SKS hype and being anxious on missing out on stuff, makes us more hungry for anything Russian especially when it comes to the SKS since we don't enjoy the gun liberties of other countries.

Since I am youngin (35 hehe) I have a fasicination with SKS's like others here have fasicinations with Enfields. If I could have 600 of them I would.

There are a lot of good things going for an SKS:

1. For now they are non-restricted.
2. They look mean and tough, angry wood, scruffy metal, Red Eastbloc Commie Evil appearance.
3. The Sheeple can say "hey I saw that gun in a movie recently."
4. Ammo is cheap for bullet weight and power.
5. It's a distant cousin to the Nanny State prohib AK47's, so in a way you're legally rebelling against the state.
6. Can be disassambled, cleaned, and assembled with a BULLET.
7. Cheap practice rifle for defensive training before you take the plunge into an expensive AR.
8. An angry version of a .22 plinker. (hey I think there is a theme here)
9. You can modify the crap out of them.
10. Like Enfields, it's a challenge to have one of all of them.

I can go on and on. Feel free to add your own reasons.
