Im quite regimental about cleaning my gun after every trip to the range and about every second time I disassemble the firing pin. knock the retaining pin out and remove the firing pin. My question is how many times should I be able to do this before the retaining pin no longer is a tight fit? Is it a part I should pick up and have handy?
thanx

Removing this pin is not a part of standard cleaning procedure. Bolt itself should only be disassembled when something is broken. I just clean it by spraying DW40 in it and wipe it with paper towel. After that just oil the bolt and carrier and slap it in the gun. Just keep it simple.
Fun shooting.

Might sound like a dumb answer but really why shoot corrosive, mfs ammo is cheap enough...

Surplus ammo is less than half the price of MFS. 4 years ago it was a quarter of the price and many of us purchased in bulk and still have it. If you're only shooting a few hundred rounds here and there MFS is fine, but for serious shooters it becomes a ridiculous waste of money and the rifle needs to be cleaned anyways . Thats why .
