this question has probably been asked before but i cant find it .i have a norinco sks and it dosent like surplus ammo out of a box of 20 round it will miss fire about 5-8 on average.i have stripped down the bolt assembly cleaned it really good.i bought some ammo that is mde it europe (the name i cant think of )and it never missed a beat.on the surplus ammo it dents the primer as it should but no boom.they arent duds ,if you put them through again they fire.what are the possible reason for this ?

please post a pic of the end of your fireing pin please.

have the same problem myself

Mine also miss fired yesterday at least 1 or 2 rounds out of 5, rounds are good as when i recycle them no problem, also the same ammo went through a cz 858 and my friends sks with no problems.

ok no pic but heres what i got

just took some pics of firing pin and relevant shots of sks regarding miss fire problem, stripped it and took pics but now am having problems posting pics so.....

What should i look for on the firing pin, no obvious marks, rust, pitting etc is veisible, pin appears to be in excellent condition.

thanks ahead for any help

slug: got a few questions .

1. is the rifle new ? or you fired it before without problem and then the problem occured?

2. did you save an FTF ammo and compared the primers to a spent casing?

3. lastly a pic of the protrusion of the firing pin from the bolt would help.

this is what I was hoping to see.

Does the fireing pin rattle when you shake the bolt forwards and backwards? If you push on the rear of it with your finger, does it come out a fair distance?

As well, is it at all possible it was re-installed upside down.

yes it does move a little bit, about 1ml to 2ml (max) linear play, not installed upside down.
It doesnt rattle per say, you have to push it back and forth with fingers not tight but not excessivley loose either

Rifle isnt new, russian sks ,lever arms special lol. I did inspect each ftf primer and it appeared the same as a spent cartridge but what specificaly should I be looking for? Ill try to get some pics posted, thanks for any input guys

have you taken the bolt apart? As in, removed the retaining pin, taken out the firing pin, and cleaned out the fireing pin channel? You don't want any oil or grease or anything in there. And if you pick up a sks bolt and shake it, you should hear the pin rattle inside. If you don't, you either have a spring (which would be rare and you would have seen it when you took it apart) or its not clean enough, or its upside down.

have a look at http ://www.surplusrifle.com/sks/boltdisassemble/hs.asp

When you take it apart, note the way the fireing pin notches are facing. There is a sticky with a link to simonov.net however that site seems to be down.....

In all likelyhood its not upside down, as to my knowledge most of the effects regarding this issue also involve the non-desired discharge of the rounds still left in the mag...

did you put the recoil spring the wrong way? the straight part of the spring should be on the back. I've ever made that mistake, and I got random misfire. so please check your recoil spring.

if it doesnt rattle then i agree with proutfoo that your bolt needs to be stripped and soaked in solvent and thoroughly cleaned.

yes, i know russian arent new but what i meant was is it new to you .

if the depth of the primers are pretty deep then its your ammo .

what year is your russian?

still ftf

I have pulled the fireing pin twice now inspected it and cleaned and appears to be fine. Still the same problem at least 1 or 2 ftf per 5round mag. I have shot same ammo through a cz858, and two others sks rifles without a problem so as to eliminate any surplus ammo issues.

Want to take it back to Lever Arms so as to exchange rifle, im fed up with it.

i have never had any luck with my rifle yet.when i got it ,it was still packed in grease(norinco) i have soaked the bolt ,stripped it down cleaned with brake cleaner and tried yet again ,still miss fires .i even went so far as to change out the complete bolt assembly, same results ......:mad:i even bough some ammo at another place ...maby storage issues, still miss fires.any brass rounds never ,never any hesitation.might it be the hammer spring ?is there any adjustment for it or just replacement.this is my first sks ,i even bought another for parts.

I tried another Chinese trigger assembly that I bought at Lever. No misfires after 40 rounds. Usually I would of had 3 or 4.

Does Wolf springs sell and SKS upgrade kit? I don't see any recoil springs there either. :(
