After removing the bayonet, my front sight is now way off to the right for it to zero. There is play in the rear site but it naturally springs to the right. Is there any way of adjusting the rear sight so that it sits correctly in the sight base?

Front sight has two adjustments... Windage (side to side) and Elevation (up and down).

Both require a tool to adjust. The Windage/Elevation tool comes with the SKS from some vendors - it's the tool that has the thumb screw? If you didn't get one with yer rifle, check the vendors (Milarm,Wolverine,P&S Militaria,Moving Target...) and get one. They're cheap =)

surplusrifle.com has a guide on sight adjustment. It's easy to do.

Rear sight is not supposed to move side to side. You might have to do some fiddling... With out a picture it's tough to reccomend a fix. Maybe the "ears" are bent and need to be staked?

my front sight came of to the left a little bit, and it looks like it was supposed to be that way (there is a little notch on the sight ring, and a matching notch on the sight pin and they are both lined up, but the pin isnt centered)

I'm guessing it's always been like that and you just noticed after taking off the bayo. My front sight post is clearly closer to one side of the ring but it shoots fine that way.
