Sks fte

Is it a Yugo? Check the fittings on the gas tube. Most likely a leak. Weak ammo can also cause a poor push on the gas tube. My bet is on the valve itself. Are you using a recoil buffer? Those can cause nightmares as well as they limit travel.

Make sure the chamber is clean. Surplus ammo or the non corrosive ammo like the Barnaul stuff has the shellac on it which can be deposited in the chamber after a while making it sticky and harder to eject. But as asked, not knowing which make of SKS you have it could help us narrow it down some more.

FTE on an sks!? Mine flings them 25 feet!

Check your gas system, especially the gas block (where gas goes from the barrel up to the piston) and make sure everything is nice and clean. Do not oil the piston either.

I am hearing alot of recommendations on the piston and that is a area I am not too sure about

Here are some pictures

Also the extractor is fine and the mag is well pinned.

The critical areas are the OD of the piston and ID of the tube. Too loose and you get too much blowby to properly drive the piston. I don't know if the specs are out there and its not an eyeball procedure to diagnose. On another note, is the squiggly end of the recoil spring assembly inserted into the bolt carrier? Installing it backwards can cause cycling issues with the SKS. If the spring is installed correctly then I would try a different gas tube and piston.

My sks will eject the round just fine, but it won't feed the next one properly and crush the casing of the new round, with the bullet pointed up and out of the chamber
Something amiss with the mag, is it pinned internally, if so is the follower able to swivel easily, some pinning jobs have caused the follower to be stiff or not swivel at all and that may cause you improper feeding!

My buddy is having the same problem. I think it's a magazine issue, but i haven't been able to take a good look at it yet... every 10-20 shots a round fails to chamber, with the exact same results...

One of my SKS does this ^^ as well, there does not seem to be any detectable reason but every 10-20 shots, it stovepipes a live round.
It has the pin on the follower but I have others pinned in exactly the same way with same freeness of movement without the Fail to Feed.
