I bought the NCStar MSKSV gas tube (was about 30 bucks shipped, so it was a decent deal) and I knew I'd have to do some filing to make it fit; however, I hadn't anticipated that my stock gas tube would have an issue fitting into the tube itself. Any suggestions on what to do?

Return it, mounting an optic on the gas tube or dust cover isn’t ideal. Both have play in them, I’d doubt they would hold zero in the first place. If you’re dead set on it I’d file or sand out the tube and not the piston, otherwise you’ll be buying a new piston when you get tired of a wandering zero.

I had an opposite experience - the piston was a bit too loose in the tube compared to the original one. It still worked though, I just had to really make sure that this whole assembly is well fit and properly aligned. Of course, no scope was installed on it, bough it just for looks and may be for mounting some random accessories. It didn't prevent me from using iron sights so it was ok.
