SKS Gas Rod Problem

Hi guys got my SKS out today for the first time and had some fun with it. Although while out I ran into a slight problem. To start I have fully stripped the gun and cleaned and oiled it prior to having it out today to remove all the packing grease that was on and in it from the years of sitting in a crate somewhere.

The problem I am having is when I fire a round the bolt comes back and ejects the spent casing and a new round is chambed, however when I proceed to pull the trigger I cant pull the trigger, almost as if the rifle isnt cocked. I cant figure out if the problem is the bolt isnt coming forward with enough force to push the gas rod forward again or if I need more oil on the bolt?

Can someone help me out with this, I know a little about how guns work, very basic knowledge dont know all the part names and stuff but I am trying to learn does anyone have a solution to this problem?
 
Can you dry fire the gun every time? If you manually pull the bolt carrier back and release it forward, does the trigger release every time when you pull it?
When you disassemble the rifle, does the gas piston freely drop out of the gas tube? Maybe the passage where the gases enter the gas tube are somewhat blocked
One other thing...how did you put the recoil spring back in? It should be inserted with the s-shaped end pointing towards the chamber
 
Did you strip out the bolt and ungunk the firing pin? That might have been forgotten, but I do like the suggestion to check the gas piston.
 
Is the bolt fully chambering the round?? If not, then you might have a problem with the gas piston(s). There are two in the SKS, remember.
 
Yeah, I had trouble one time after reassembling my SKS, for some reason the safety wouldn't disengage. So I stripped down and reassembled worked fine...still have no idea what happened. Good luck with this and my question is:
So did it work fine and then not or did it just not work right from the moment you put it on the firing line? I'm thinking gas piston but it could be something with the trigger itself.
 
Yes the bolt fully chambers the round and yes I ungunked the bolt and when I dry fire the rifle it works even time seems to only be when I load it with live ammo
 
Mods please move to red rifle forum!

Take out your trigger gaurd and make sure it's installed properly.

Perhaps it is my op rod that is causing the problem and not my gas rod or gas housing? I have installed the trigger several times, seem to have it in right when I had it out I was able to get through about 15 rounds before I ran into problems.
 
OH!
You got a stickey oprod?
Check the spring and make sure it's in good condition.
Check the op rod for binding points.
If all else fails replace all the parts in question.
