Hello everyone,

At the request of the community, I have made a video after a recent range shoot of my SKS, post modification.

I found recoil to be reduced and the brass throw extremely reduced for distance and power (it used to kick directly into the ceiling and then fall, now it consistently fires to the right at about 2-3 oclock, with 1/3 of the force.

Operation of the SKS action was not hindered by the modification.

Apologies for the slow speech and brightness, it was about -26 plus wind chill and I was freezing!

Enjoy!

X2, As Supernova asked, the SKS performed just fine with the mod at -26C?
I'm thinking of easing up on the gas pressure myself, but I'll put two #40 holes,
one on each lower side of the gas tube, angled down and back. The holes at an
angle should bleed off gases more efficiently, and downwards will reduce the chances
any water getting in from condensation. I won't drill any hole at the top...

Good luck piscese-guy, please post pictures or a video when you can. Yes, I fired another 20 rounds out of the SKS after, and the action was not affected at all by cold.

Cheers,
D

I am going to have another go at continuing the adjustments when I get out to the range again. I had to take apart my cordless dremel and substantially shim the motor and bearing cages to get it to a useable point. I don't know why Dremel would make a rotary tool that slides around on the inside so much. It's much better now. They aren't kidding when they say Dremels are for diy lolz.

EDIT: One modification I have not thought of, that might help, would be to get a new operating spring with a greater wire diameter from somewhere, or maybe some slip rings to try.
