Hey guys,

Thought i'd post a question to the collective about my SKS.

I installed an ATI stock kit for my SKS (no boo'ing or hissing please) and can't seem to get the gas tube to sit back in so that I can put the little switch to the down position. I had some issues with the pin when I put the new polymer grip on the gas tube, but the pin is definitely flush now. It's probably a hundredth of a millimeter off, and just wont clear.

I'm guessing filing it down would be a huge mistake - has anyone else ran into this problem with the aftermarket ATI stock conversion?

It happens with a lot of aftermarket stocks, the new stock sides are a little higher than a regular wood sks stock, so the wood hand guard on the gas tube hits before the tube is all the way down. You can either sand a bit off the top of the stock wherever it touches the hand guard untill it fits, or you can sand off of the bottom of the hand guard itself untill you can press the lever down.
I don't know what the result would be in terms of extra stress on the barrel throwing off accuracy, but i have heard of people who will put the gas tube on and push down the lever, then put the stock on and it will usually fit on this way.

Well the filing was fun. It fits very snug, but the latch goes down when it's out of the stock.

Now if the damn trigger would just fit in.. I dremel'd down under the trigger, but it's just not going. Ah well, will have to look at it later.
