Hey, so I'm just finishing up the de-cosmolination (new term;)) of my chinese sks from marstar (pics to come later), and I noticed upon reassembly that the gas tube has a slight wiggle. It does not move up or down, but it slightly wiggles from side to side. It's not much, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed the same thing on their sks. Thanks for any help or advice.

Know anyone who is a welder?
Add the same amount on both sides. Then file it to fit snugly in place.

Shim it. I put a really small folded square of aluminim foil in the space under the latch. Can't really see it when latch closed. I think the chinese would approve.

My '51 Russian wiggles a bit also, she shoots fine so I guess there's nothing to worry about, just have fun putting rounds downrange.:sniper:

I wouldn't be concerned. Shim it if you feel it's necessary. My tula sks had similar play, and after well over a thousand rounds of milsurp spent, there was no unusual wear of any sort.

One of the ones I've got was so tight I had to machine it down a bit to fit in and out of place. These rifles were assembled but never really used. If they had been issued, a certain number would have been sent back for adjustments. I wouldn't worry about a bit of slack in the gas assembly. Take a look at how over-sized the piston extension is compared to the end of the gas piston. You can have lots of play and still have it operate perfectly.

Mine is snug when cold but it starts wiggling after firing 1 or 2 mags. Other than demonstrating why a railed front handguard for a SKS is useless, it creates no issues whatsoever.
