Ive read about these before...not sure if it was on these forums though.
Regardless...my new 1954 unissued Tula arrived today..and it has a gold coloured bayonet.
Does anyone know why this is gold?
Should I leave it as or try and clean it?

I have read it is an anti corrosion coating applied by heating the bayonet, and immersing in Cosmo, or another oil.
Leave it be, or you are just making mine more valuable.

Sorry..this is the only pic I have until I get home..but you get the idea.

Nobody has definitive proof, IMO, of what causes the gold color. It is applied on purpose, though, and I would leave it alone for sure! Why mess with something that looks cool AND adds a touch of mystery.

The bayo is chromed, its just staining of some sort from storage. Chrome is the anticorrosion finish, nothing you can do to chrome to make it more rust proof.
