SKS heavy barrel but strange grinding marks

Anyone know why this would be ground down like this?

Looks like some dummy tack welded the barrel to the reciever and used a grinder on the weld.

So, if the receiver hadn't been ground down, would the stock cross-bolt interfere with it? Is it a matching stock? It looks like the cross-bolt sits farther to the rear than it should for proper stock fit, and a previous owner (not Ivan, the ugliest arsenal work is better than that) relieved the receiver to get the stock back on.

I bought it from Outdoor Outfitters as a SUPERGRADE in January. I was messing with it this morning and noticed that. It does look like it was done to fit the crossbolt on the stock.

this is not ivans doing as grounding is fresh, most likely was bubbaed in Canada. Seems that some one was trying to install some sort of mag adapter, after realizing it was not working, decided to return it to stock?

Try. Make a fuss, especially for this. Say you were told it could blow up, and you wouldn't want to have to sue.

Welding on a barrel is a huge NO NO! and I would not deem that gun serviceable if I inspected it at work.

There is nothing heavy about that barrel, in fact its lighter now with all that grinding done to it.
