Are you looking for a plinking rifle or one for a collection? New Chinese SKSs can be had for around $140, right on up to collectible Soviet SKSs in the $400-500 range.

Did you read through this sticky thread?

I bought three Chinese military SKS's off of Lever arms for $149 each.

A nice guy who works there handpicked three that were all milled with the threaded in barrels. All numbers are matching; except for the magazine assemblies on two.

It pisses me off they had to drill them to fit only five rounds.

I considered the Yugo M59, but opted for the Chicom because of it's chrome-lined barrel. Otherwise they are both good guns, the Yugo is supposed to have slightly better accuracy due to the lack of chrome-lining.

The Russian SKS's have gotten too rich for my blood.

It will be used for plinking and maybey the odd deer. My guess is the chinese SKS. How are they for jamming, and some have a clip and some dont, right?

Thanks

My SKS has never jammed. Keep it clean and properly maintained and you won't likely have a problem.

The standard SKS has a fixed magazine which can be loaded with stripper clips. The SKS-D has a removable magazine. The D model is not currently imported and is selling for 2-3 times the price of a standard model.
