SKS how hot?

Recently I had the chance to shot an SKS, and it got too hot to touch just after 30-40 rounds.
Is that normal?
How hot do you let yours get?
I assumed that it is supposed to be a military rifle,
therefore being capable to handle lots of shooting.

Dont worry, you wont harm an sks that way,particulary with the mag limitation we got:p I have shot about 120 rds with mine clip after clip without pause, even more with my cz 858!

At blast off last year I got my sks so hot the cosmo came out from between the front sight and barrel. The gun never bobbled.
 
I've let both of my SKS's, a Russian and a Chinese, get so hot touching the barrel or gas tube would burn you instantly. I had no failures or cookoffs, accuracy stayed the same, and cosmoline was bleeding out of the stock. It was glorious. I remember once when I went to charge it with a stripper clip I burned the tip of my finger on the bolt carrier because I touched it for too long! It was a hot day and I had fired a ton of rounds through her and she kept on going.

Some people even notice their SKS shoots a little better when hot! It's a tough rifle and some heat won't hurt it. When it's getting dangerously hot, you'll know.

Even firing 4-5 shots semi-quickly from a centerfire bolt action rifle will heat it up to where the chamber/throat area of the barrel is uncomfortably hot. Firing a major centerfire calibre semi quickly will result in all sorts of parts being scorching hot. Human skin burns at ~140F, it doesn't take much to get the action and barrel hotter than that. They are fine until near red hot temps (~800F), but running them that hot on a regular basis will wear out the bore in short order.

I've shot close to 100 rounds in under a minute with mine, and it was so hot the G96 was actually boiling out of the top of the wood cover of the gas tube. Didn't hurt it one bit. But I couldnt go near it, it was super intensely hot! First day with it so i wanted to see what type of abuse it could take... It rocked!
 
There was a Youtube video where a guy torture tested an SKS. Sat down with a crate worth of ammo and set to work firing and loading as fast as he could (it was in the US, so 10 rounds at a time). The handguard caught fire at the 400 round mark, the put out the fire, let it cool for a while and then started shooting again, no problems.

Long story short, it will get really hot, but it will hurt you before you hurt it.
