SKS "HunteR"

First, it looks great, now some questions.
What muzzle break(or flash hider or paper weight, whatever you wanna call it)?
What bipod?
The rail it's attached too, was added by you or came on the stock?
What magazine? Working good?
Please do tell about the scope and mount.
Hows the feel, lop, of the stock?
How will you stab anything without the bayonet!?

I plan on doing a similar project on my sks. Major difference being I want a sporter style stock & peep sights.

I've seen pics that show the Mosin Nagant mount sticks out about 1cm the goes down the outside of the stock so you don't have to cut out so much material. It's heartbreaking to get a 2.5 inch group with an SKS then have you're brand new 260$ ( with shipping ) optic mangled by brass flying about.

Lets see some pics of your sks.... this Choat stock fits like a glove.. no shimming or filing required ... with this scope mount it is already about 1/2"
off center to the left... i don't think it would be as comfortable if it would stick out any further... and i'm debating about the shell deflector.... i really like the fact that i can use open sights just as easy AS w/o scope, but once i put the "rear sight mount deflector" i wont have that option any more....i'll probably try both ways to see how it is... i heard different opinions about it, people say that if that mounting bracket for your POSP installed correctly (nice and tight with 3-4 bolts) then there is no way to loose zero by hitting brass, or even dropping the gun... scope down... :) i don't recommend trying the last part out... :)

You can find this Muzzle brake, bipod, and rails at Marstar.
And 5 rd Zytel Mags you can get from SKSMAN(he also has some nice stocks)
The PosP 8x42 i got from KalinkaOptics together with mounting bracket, altho SKSman has them a bit cheaper, just not as good of a veriety.....
As for handguard rail, yes i put it on my self, (i used the planer to make a flat surface)
Stabbing is overrated.... :):)

I thought the same... until i put everything together..... and surprisingly it is very comfortable... cheek lines up perfectly.... and you dont have to breake your neck :) to lock on the target....slight off center position helps....
 
I promise that at least 1 in 10 casings will impact your scope. Mine's about 1cm off centre too but it needs another cm for clearance as they just barely hit it. If you think that even a POSP mount can take the kind of punishment that 7.62x39 brass ejecting can dish, my friend you're dead wrong and your scope will suffer. We have almost identical setups ( I'll post in the AM ) and I can see the same thing happening to you. I'm just lucky I didn't break the glass or permanently mess up the railmount.
 
Finally someone using a proper side mount and not one of those stupid receiver cover mounts.
And yes get a shell deflector.

Pics of my SKS Project. Funny thing, the guy I'm in contact with at Eastwave.ca is named Dmitry. Not a bad company to work with.

Whats the good word on the deflector issue btw, anyone know the best product to use. I think that no matter how you side mount is going to be a problem on an SKS.

How hard was it to get the handguard retaining pin out btw, I've been banging away off and on for days with no result.

i love those cheapy deflector , i paid oly $15 for 2 from fabsports and yeah, they need to be adjust and file to fit. took a whole 2 minutes , i even fited it to my VZ58 took 5 minutes . just make sure the sight is snapped lock so the deflector wont come loose.

Looks good. Only thing I can say is how much I hate those plastic duckbill mags. The metal ones are much better IMO. They are for me anyways.

Yes.. I tryed banging too it didn't work, then I drilled one side about 1mm deep, using the same size bid as the pin, and that gave me clear picture where to place the punch and then it worked.... But don't u think it won't look good if you take that part out And have the top open??? That was my biggest isue with ATI Drag. stock.... I mean besides the bulckiness.... :):)
 
Actually the ATI system ( while not as clean as the Choate ) has a nice black handguard that replaces the wood... now if I can only get the wood off lol.
