so iv decided to go the red route for fun and buy a sks.

Now i dont know alot about the rifle but what i do know is they aren't the most accurate gun around. this is fine im looking for fun not accuracy. :50cal:

So my question is what are the differences between the Russian sks and the Chinese versions, how do you tell if the barrels are chrome lined, whats there worth, out of all of them what is better the black bolt or the silver bla bla. not to mention the most accurate outa the lot?

this would help me narrow down my search and i hope help a few others as well

Personally, I have one of each. I like my Chinese SKS, but if I could only keep one, it would be the Russian.

Have a look at weimajack or westrifle here on CGN, you can get an unissued one, not that there is anything wrong with the arsenal refurbished ones, they are great to!

Cheers

Read the SKS stickies, the differences are very small and come down to personal preference. Having owned lots of both Russian and Chinese I can say there is no difference in reliability. They are incredibly reliable, so long as you dont swap cheap aftermarket parts in that can affect that. For best accuracy go Chinese. For history go Russian. The rest is what you prefer. If you go Chinese, get a factory 306. They are far nicer rifles than the factory 625s that are also floating around. Fit, finish and overall aesthetics are much better with the 306. Weimajack has a nice selection at very good prices. They are brand new, bluing is 100%, bores are chromed and better quality than Russian and the triggers are more often better than a Russian.

Kim have the Russian Yugoslav and Chinese they are the same. Buy an unissued one. Best price is marstar. $75 if you buy a crate of ammo which you need anyway

Good luck and happy shooting

I have both a 306 and 625 and you are correct the 306 is a bit lighter and feels a bit smoother to me but they both work great.

well i just bought my first RUSSIAN sks the date is 1954r it is chrome lined and all the parts are matched BUT the gas tube and piston are force matched, im not to worried about that part. as for the cosmoline i tryed getting it off with a hair dryer it didnt work, so i used a water based solvent and it came off quick and DID NOT harm the finish, the trick to this solvent is warm water.

Nope, not forced matched, just how they did the gas tube & piston serial.

CONGRATS on the SKS by the way!

Did you strip all the part, and removed the cosmoline a part at a time, or did you do that on the fully assembled rifle ?

I'm gonna have to do this on mine too.

btw, did you check the chamber for headspace and the bolt for a protruding firing pin ?

i did take the rifle fully apart and clean piece by piece BUT i have no idea what you are talking about for head space, the fireing pin is flush it looks

They are definately not all the same. Might be all from the same idea, but each country built a different gun. Compare a stamped SKS56 to aSKS45 or a SKS59,and tell me they're all the same. Wood used differed by country also.

Please educate yourself about headspace. You probably shouldn't be operating a firearm if you don't at least have a rudimentary understanding of how critical it is from a safety standpoint.

When did SKS suddenly start showing up with headspace issues? First Ive heard of it. This would have been done at the factory, even on refurbs unless someone doesnt care about the safety of their own soldiers...
