The year is usually stamped on the receiver cover along with a Tula Star or an Izzy triangle inside a circle with an arrow in it. But Ive seen them unmarked as well.

Ah yes, a letter series. 1955/56 Tula production. The exact date is unknown.

Your original question baffled me, but now I see how you could have been unsure of the manufacturer and date, seeing that its a laminate letter gun. Looks very nice , by the way.

That is in export marking, russia must mark anys firearms that going to be exported. The year will be on top rear cover,if not there look on left side of receiver to see what letter follow the serial number.

This is actually incorrect (sorry to say). I speak Russian and I did some research on this. I was able to find a website that explains what kind stamp that is in english. Here it is: http://www.smallarmsreview.com/display.article.cfm?idarticles=2676

Basically what that stump means is that the "battle sks" was sent to a gun factory and was modified to become a hunting SKS. Thats what "ОП" stands for. There are some modifications done to it. Other than those couple of things its the same SKS.

I dont know if that website will answer all of your questions but you can do a bit more research from there.
