SKS ident and info, not a newb!!!

No I am not a newbie guys and I used the stickies to find alot out as well. I am going to state what I think I know and ask for guidance/help please!!

I just got this SKS so here is what I know:
milled trigger group
lightened silver bolt
not force matched, also unfired
front gas tube not 45 degree nose, rounded like
rear cover tab is pointing up and no releif in stock
wood stock
spike bayonet
sling swivel on side of stock
short barrel not pinned
7 digit serial on receiver but 5 elsewhere

SO what have I got here is the first 3 digits the year?? Then it is a 1988 build?? This is not a unique model? Yes i know it has a metal duck bill mag in it, yuck. This is not a collectable? I have plans for a bit of a build and just don't want to do it on one that has a uniqueness or value to it is all. The only markings I see are the serial number but under the sight base there are a couple number around the barrel I cannot make out, or do they matter?? Yes here is a couple of pics.

Looks like a run of the mill Chinese mid to late 1960's SKS. If it was a Factory 26 with blade bayonet it would have some collector value but I think you should be good to go with modding this one.
 
If you field strip it you may find that the original markings were milled off and a new serial applied. For a time it seems some SKS probably intended for the US market were "civilianized" this way.

I had one with otherwise early features done like this. A thin layer of steel was milled off the left receiver wall and a new number applied. The bottom of a factory triangle marking was still visible below the mill line.
 
Hear is my 2 cents:
It definately looks like a Russian SKS, it is very interesting to look at because of the new looking magazine compared to the hinged floorplate magazine that the stock SKS's usually have and as well as the rear "sideways" mounted sling swivel to possibly accomodate a wolf hook.
I say don't mod it out and keep it original...
 
Chinese. mid length barrel collar, left side sling swivel on stock, three point spike bayonet. Need a pic of up close on the left side of the receiver. Apparently there is no way of actually dating a Chinese rifle unless it's a factory 26 rifle due to so many different places making them with different assembled parts at different times. I would guess by the characteristics, (lightening cuts on bolt carrier, lightening grove on bayo lug, mid length barrel collar) a late 60's early 70's. Just a edu-macated guess. Nice piece, anyways.
 
SO decent quality SKS with little or no collecability then guys? Like i said earlier I am looking at doing a mod with posp scope so there will be a permanent mod so I ust don't want to ruin a nice piece is all. Hmmmmmmm sks with wood thumbhole and posp is what I want to do. Already have the stock so I was going to start over hte Xmas holiday.
 
Chinese SKS's were made at several different facilities and each one is built with parts made to slightly different designs and specifications. You'll see some gas blocks are rounded, some are squared, some barrels have a round crown, some are beveled. A lot of variances on Norinco guns.
