1950 Tula Arsenal rufurb in an Artic Birch stock from 1952. Appears to be an early 52 as it has the loop ring recoil spring cover latch, rather than the flat tab latch. The loop was a 49/early 50 style. Does it have a blade bayonet or a spike bayonet?

Its a black paint Tula refurb. The stock is from a later vintage but the bolt with the firing pin spring is likely 1950 cuz they started making them free floating shortly after that. You have a common Russian SKS shooter that will work fine for many years to come but has little collectors value if any at all other than a shooter. Also, a 1950 sks would not have a chrome bore, and the ones they painted the bolt, did so because it appeared in rough shape. They never painted good bolts or receivers.

That one looks like it's blued, not painted black. Note the difference in color on the reciever.

Oh god. This thread just reminded me of the stupid "free floating firing pin vs. striker fired firing pin" debate. That had to be the dumbest thing on CGN at the time. Of course, many many dumber things have been argued over since then.

Your rifle has some nice early features that are only shared with the '49 rifle. the take down pin for the dust cover along the the type of feather that is engraved on the dust cover. The barrel lug also has the sharp step which is shared on the earlier rifles. The later barrel lugs have a smoother transition. You've stated you have the spring loaded firing pin, the only thing that is missing it the 90degree gas block.

It's a very interesting refurb because of the early features. Nice score.
