Hi guys,

many of us are trying to do something to approach to the real AK....
some buy T81, some buy VZ/CSA... some do mods.

Here is my mod of 1952 Russian SKS.
Is it booba? Maybe, I don't care.

I wanted specifically save as much SKS as possible and yet add some look of an AK.

So SKS is 1952, modified by Kodiak Defence to accept AK-47 mags.
The core of the stock is Tapco, USA... I had to remove all logos including USA as it doesn't look good

The buttstock and front grip are an original AK-74
The pistol grip is an original AK-47

This mod preserves SKS bayonet/ cleaning rod (forgot to insert it for the photo), it allows partial field strip as on a regular SKS, it also preserves a full strip the regular way, except the angle is a bit steeper to get to the trigger group release button, but it works fine. Unfortunately this SKS-KD mod specifically lack BHO, which is a construction thing to accommodate for AK-47 mags

I have more detailed images re: pistol grip, front grip/bayonet and butt stock if there is interest

I spent around three months (3 evenings per week or so) to get it done

It really feels good. Didn't shoot this mod yet. Will let you know how it shoots soon.

Looks great! I'd chop that barrel and remove the bayonet but that's just me. I had to laugh though at "booba" lol. Yes, rifle is very booba, komerade.

thanks guys for input. this specific one I wanted to still be a sks. maybe next one I will cut to 18.6 with front metal sight restoran. these versions will be strictly open sight no booba tacticoolic crap.
it is actually easier than archangel mod I had. have to weigh it formally though.

And yes I was thinking about adding a cosmetic rear hump... may do it on the next barrel cut version.

when I just started collecting, I went tacticool/ booboistic ... then in 1 year I started to mature... unfortunately, prices rose and quality dropped.. but still I had a chance to get some reasonable quality / almost all parts matching.. now... I really appreciate wood and stamped steel products.
my wooden collection is missing the most important piece, we all know which one... so "plastic doll (actually, mostly made of stamped metal/ wood)" substitutes it on the second photo.
otherwise, I am still missing an original sniper Mosin and sniper SVT... I cannot call my VZ58 w/ AK stock and SKS in AK skin true booba, I'd call it "slight deviation from the roots" as it is still wood... or maybe as I am nostalgic for my AK74.. I'd call those two... "nost-AK-lgic"

maybe one day I will cut the barrel restore ak-style sights on my other sks-kd project... otherwise... just cannot chop it.... feels like a necessary, but painful circumcision

The SKS will never look like an AK simply because of where the trigger group and mag well are located.

With Vz58's and T81's around, chopping down SKS's to build an "AK lookalike" is sort of pointless, especially since it's mission impossible. No matter how much time and effort you put, you'll always be limited to it's standard layout circa 1945.

Good job, but it's still an SKS with AK-ish lipstick on it... ;)

U just love bumping old threads dont ya^
It is a very nice collection Pecheneg!
Ur next project should be SVD themed. That's a notorious red rifle that's missing
