SKS in Archangel stock. Final thoughts and why not to buy it!

Yeah, when I was asked to put a Ruskie SKS into one of those for the first time (for a friend), I was like: "Sure, how hard could it be? It's probably just a 10 minute job".

Oh, how wrong I was..... the job was done an hour, two drill bits and numerous swear word outbursts later, lol. The fact that this cu-nt of a stock wouldn't allow to pop in the trigger assembly at the end was just a cherry on the sundae. I finally managed to get it in there and click and then noticed I forgot the damn trigger assembly spring! Off she comes again... rinse, repeat!

Field stripping this thing would be a near impossibility.

I was confident heading into my first install but it was a #####umen of a time. Glad they include multiple pins for the gas block. I still have one left.

agree-stock is an engineering idiotism
whoever designed it should be re-educated or banned from doing this crap in the future
Archangel should reimburse for moral loss, first of all!
I will never even try their crazy new mag with a small little ##### hanging out:

They failed once, and didn't even apologize to customers ny redesigning this piece of sh$t

Yeah, really. I have one SKS all tricked out, so I can play with all the variations on the theme.
Otherwise, I just spend my time on bluing and refinishing the woodwork to make them look better than what the arsenal could produce.
About the only thing I have with Simonov's original design is in the sights.
I'm not sure I'll ever have a definitive answer for that.
Have you been hot blueing! I looked at the aftermarket stocks but, every time I decide to just go buy another sks for the same price!
What would it cost to blue an sks? I have lots that are blued and some Parkerized! I like them both, the nicest blueing I have seen is on a couple of refurbs I bought with the bayo blued too, everything is a really dark deep blueing, awesome!

I prefer the look in original wood furniture. I scored my first two commie guns in a deal and I'm leaving them cause they're both kinda nice. I guess if you want to tacticool it you can always go back. I might consider one of the sporter stocks they make for the Mosin so I can use it and not have to worry. Nah. I think I'll be hunting with the bayonet mounted and all. Still likely get tag soup but at least I'll feel cool.

I don't have the infrastructure to support hot bluing, so I just cold blue.
My latest effort was a blackout theme where I dyed the sling black, blued every visible piece of metal black, including the bolt carrier and the bayonet.
I stained the the birch stock with dark walnut and hand rubbed linseed oil till it gleamed.
But back to the AA Opfor stock. Talk about "your mileage may vary" or what!
I bought mine off of Dave at HiCal, and he machined the cutout for the AR mag adapter, which I also got from him.
My 1950 Tula clicked in snugly, like it was made for it.
The handguard was a non issue for me, since as an AME I know how to drill out rivets. Also, AA's handguard is directional, so you don't put it in backwards if you don't want trouble.
The AK hump is stupid, and I wanted to mount a Tech Sight TS 200 rear peep sight, so I just carved that stupid hump off.
Now, with the Opfor stock, AR adapter, Tech Sight peep, and the bayonet removed, along with a Magpul Gen 3 sling and a Harris bipod, it's now the most fun battle rifle I've ever had fun with since my FNC1 days.
If I'm just doing 100 yard work at the Langemark range, it's always one of my bring alongs.
In fact, the only thing slowing down my field strip is the peep sight.
When cleaning after corrosive, the handguard goes in the hot water pail along with all the other sooty crap.
All in all, I rate the (carved) Opfor an 8 out of 10.

I bought a Tapco stock for my SKS and then an ArcAngel magazine it seemed to fit after some filing but ended up going with a Tapco magazine because the 35 round mag interfered with my vertical grip/bipod

I agree if you cut the stupid rear hump or figure the way to slide it in/ out, then archangel becomes really better than Tapco, until then.... cutting something from extremely expensive stock... is a bit too much

How is that "too much"? I've known people who bought brand new airplanes and immediately installed high lift kits and upgraded avionics worth almost half as much again as the aircraft itself.
Hogging a hump off an Opfor is NOTHING!
Just because something came from the factory a particular way is no reason for you to forever cripple yourself.
You know what you want. Do it. Fork the factory.

I mean too much is too much, after you buy a stock for 250 CaD just to cut a big stupid piece of it.... unless you really like that specific stock, then it's fine

Wow. What a bunch of drama-queens.

It takes all of 20 seconds to remove the plastic piece behind the trigger, remove the trigger-group, and then pull the barrelled action out of the stock.

Then it's nice and easy to clean the barrel and action in the laundry tub, while the stock sits harmlessly off to the side.

Do you people really find it that difficult to do?

I've got six SKS's. Only f'd up one of em with an aftermarket stock. I keep it as reminder to leave well enough alone.
OTOH, I've got a Mosin in an Archangel, with all of the goodies and I love it!
Go figure.

It is not about difficulty . It is about crazy archangel design and me wasting my time and cutting the stupid hump off a very expensive stock, which should not have to be even drawn that way, but unfortunately this crap is manufactured.. so somebody draw that sh...t and it hit the production line... somehow

Also have mosin in archangel.. and it is very nice and very logical stock

I don't have a problem with the little hump. Popping out the trigger group takes about 2 seconds. Then you just lift the rest of the rifle out for cleaning. But to each their own.

Hey PECHENEG

There is a YouTube channel that you might find interesting. Search for channel called "Blast Shadow". There's three videos of modified sks's done by a board member here.

thank you! Sk-15 mode is definitely very interesting, but quite complex for a regular user. I would be interested in more details, but either I missed it or he didn't cover, how the front piece is modified and how the mag is holding in the well... I am assuming, it is a tight fit in front and the rear is holding to the mag latch..., definitely sk-15 is changing the whole ergonomics/ drill
