Just wondering if someone coul post a picture of an sks with an internally pinned magazine. Id like to know if its better than the external rivet. Ive been eyeballing a westrifle sks

I have SKS's with all 5 different pinning methods... and I can tell you that the most reliable method, BY FAR, is the external rivet, NOT to be confused with a frankenpinned magazine that some dipsh*ts on here espouse. The recent internal pinning method relies on a small piece of bar stock pinned to the follower pivot point. The problem is that sometimes the pinning is too tight limiting or completely preventing the follower from pivoting freely (and it's not easy to remedy). This has lead to a rash of FTF problems reported by CGN members. I have one that is too tight and one that is fine. Kind of like playing Russian roulette.

Thanks guys!, would the west rifle pinning be undoable with no adverse effects if the magazine laws were every changed? Would i have a mangled looking follower?

Yes, the internal pin can have some issues. But it can be easliy adjusted with some files and a dremel. For people like me who like to tinker, it's a non issue. Some will disagree.
I have the nicely done external rivet... but it bothers me that such a nice historic rifle has to be buggered like that. I think if I was going to buy a 49 or something non-refurbished, I'd go with internal just to preserve the original look

Trust me, hammering a new pin into the follower pivot point, and then using a dremel or file to make it run smoothly is just as much of a buggering job... just hidden. I prefer function over form, unless form works 100%

To me it nicer because it doesn't change magazine from outside. I doubt that 5 rounds law will be ever relaxed, but if it happens I'll get 30 round magazine: )
If the 5-round law is ever relaxed (highly doubtful), the easiest "return to normal" is the 2008 IZH import -- where a small piece of bar stock is welded to the follower arm... a zip with the dremel and a smoothing with a stone and it's back to original.

This is one of my 1949 SKS's from Westrifle. The pin makes the follower a little stiff but I will never fire my '49s anyway...

I just don't like CGN members taking opportunities to trash a perfectly acceptable design every chance they get in an effort to sway opinion, especially for vulnerable noobs who end up buying an SKS that doesn't cycle reliably. You know, just trying to maintain the balance.
Actually, if it were up to me, there would be no magazine limiters. But if I were forced to choose, a pin welded to follower is the best (like early 2008 IZH imports), followed by external rivet. A dumb design that possibly limits the function of an SKS doesn't deserve credit, unless you're just collecting and not really shooting it.
You will note that most other rifles employ a rivet or pin to limit magazine capacity, not a cosmetic solution that doesn't always work.

Just as an aside, I will be in conversation with Westrifle to convince them to drop the dumb design and emulate the IZH import method of limiting.
Mine is pinned to the follower and I hate it! I have tons of FTF issues. I have been oiling and wiggling it trying to loosen it up drives me crazy. I could use some advise on the dremel approach. After doing some searching It does not seem like the limit issue just stiff. My Brothers is riveted to the bottom. He has never had a FTF. Collecting not to be rapid fired get pinned to follower. Looking for a reliable shooter get the one riveted to the bottom. I just picked up a metal pmag hoping that solves my grief.
When you get lemons, make lemonade. The pin in mine allows 5.5 rds to come off the clip meaning a sixth rd always fell off the clip in and had to be removed usually by canting and shaking. By adding a set screw, you adjust the heinous pin to allow exactly 5 rds with the other 5 remaining on the clip. No change made to the leagllity of the pin as the original purpose is maintained even if the screwwere to be removed.

The metal "USA" mags work great, but may need some very minor filing to get them to install with ease.
