Would love to keep the relic but with whats possibly coming down the pipe I'm at odd's. I've been eyeing a Chiappa mare's leg in 44mag thats $900, safe bet that will stay unrestricted, and is practical for me in my neck of the woods.

With it being a Tula SKS with matching serials and in rather decent shape it's got some resale value with room for profit to me seeing as i paid $175 for it in 2011. I figure spare myself the risk all together and sell it. Looking online I am seeing that the Tula rifles with matching #'s in good shape are worth around $600.. rifle alone. I have half a case of corrosive, new brass, hornady reloads, powder, lee die set and a tapco mag. What would a reasonable asking price be?

So what is the real likelihood of the SKS becoming restricted or prohibited? I hold a restricted, but a restricted SKS is just f***ing stupid and not worth the hassle one bit to me. Because if it gets banned while I own it I'd sooner shove it in the floorboards covered with cosmoline and forget about it than hand it over.

Sell it and put the money towards the Chiappa or hold onto it for now and see what happens?

That was in the good ol US of A I think, they must be worth more down there then. I'm guessing they are worth less here in Canuckistan? There's a Tula SKS with 20bids sitting at $650 and one for $799 with 1 bid on gunbroker.com.

Let's see... You're considering selling it so that someone else will be stuck with it if prohibited...

We don't know what exactly the clown show is going to do in the near future. Will the SKS feel the ban hammer..likely..but still an unknown. I guess it depends on if you want to own a "military style assault weapon" paperweight. The government wants to ban all firearms at some point, its at the very core of liberal ideology...here today, banned tomorrow.

Well like i pointed out the Tula ones are going for over $600. When life gives you lemons you make lemonade, no?.
At least then its not my problem anymore that's how I look at it and I'm not stuck with a paperweight.

The government can label it a military style assault rifle all it want's, but to me it is no different than a Mini 30 which will remain non-restricted.

Yeah lots of unknowns at this point in time. I just know that a Mare's Leg 44mag won't be banned anytime soon, also it would be easier to hide if it ever does get banned.

Depends how you look at it.. If they ban the sks then you will not be able to get them later (legally of course) but if you never use it and dont care for it then yeah sell it now to get what you really want. My 2 cents.

It's a neat piece of history that's cool to have and fun to shoot & clean then on the other hand will be really hard to get if banned, but also will have zero usability at that point. Its kind of a double edged sword I guess. Then I look at it this way too in a "prepper" sort of light, if the #### ever hits the fan at least i'll have an SKS stashed away.

Zero usability near enforcement. It's a huge ####ing country, and just like the millions of guns that didn't go on the LGR, there will be thousands of semi's that don't go to the government. That's the real rub.

Big difference between US and Canadian markets. There is an import ban on SKS down south driving collector prices up. Not so up here where you can still get them for under $300. Tula is most common Russian SKS and matching numbers is standard. They were mostly all force matched during refurbishment so mismatched numbers is less common. List it for $600 and the only responses you'll get will be a-holes either #####ing or laughing at you. They are definitely not going for $600 in Canada. There are some 1949 and Yugo SKS at higher prices and a few unissued non refurbs with high asking prices but a run of the mill is a tough sale even at $300.

Hang onto the SKS , it is not a registered firearm , and the govt. does not even know that you have it . Plus given the huge number of SKSs in circulation , it probably won't be banned anyway due to enforceability issues .

at 200-400/rifle the protest of having them is worth keeping the rifle. If that will financially affect you by all means sell them on. But dumping them in fear of what is being called a government is a bit sad, stand up to those pricks. If what I now call "the tyranny" wants to target and steal our property make it as difficult as possible.

That said if you have some decent sub market SKS's I am sure I can take them off your hands to delivery to mike over there in Canmore, he's got quite a collection over there.
