Looks like I should'a bought an sks for 139 bucks, instead of the Tikka T3.

You answered your own question, you WERE thinking.

John Y Cannuck said:I think we all agree that the SKS is capable of killing a moose. If you get one to lean on the barrel, with his vitals.
I fear that someone will take a shoulder shot, and that 125 just aint going to cut it....
Dimitri said:Also the balistics are matched using 24" barrels. NOT Semi-automatic rifles. The 30-30 Lever action will have more of this "energy" then the semi-auto because the semi-automatic rifle WILL use some of its energy to reload the SKS while the lever action 30-30 will not.

The sks is not a good rifle to go after moose with. It just isn't. And i have serious reservations about the idea of using the 'very least amount of gun theoreticaly possible' to take game. We owe animals as quick and clean a death as we can give them, and using 'marginal' rounds on purpose shows disrespect for the animal IMHO.

All that Commie junk should be dumped in the ocean and made into artificial reef.
Dimitri said:One problem with the balistics listed for the 7.62x39mm Russian and the 30-30.
Your talking about the 125gr MANAGED RECOIL ammo that Remington produces. NOT the hunting ammo people use.![]()
The 30-30 with a 170gr bullet has 170ft-lb of energy more at 100 yards compared to the 7.62x39mm Russian which is the "max range" of these rifles for a ethical kill on the moose.

Ruger made a special edition bolt action 7.62x39 that's about the only one I would own. All the rest are jack handles and pry bars.
