Hey guys I'm new to this forum but I have been lurking for the last couple of months

So here's my question are the sks model m and d legal in canada?
Please excuse my ignorance I spent 2 days looking for the answer and couldn't find the answer

I already have one matching Russian 1953 Tula and am looking to ad another to my collection

Thanks-Noah

They are, in my opinion, greatly over-valued - you have to spend some $600, give or take, to get one. It's still just a SKS!!! (No, my SKS D isn't for sale :D )

$600 on the EE. $600 at a gun show. Much less on private deals where the seller hasn't had his ideas of values pumped up by threads like this one. For example, I goty sks d earlier this year for $150. In a fancy folding stock as well as the factory wood one. Ask all the old boys you know, there'll be one sittin in a closet or safe somewhere, and he probably will have paid under $200 for it in the first place.

Think I paid $600 for my SKS-M but came with a bunch of 30rd mags and an extra tapco stock. Sold the mags and stock. Would sell the M with 1 5rd mag for $450 + shipping.

It's an SKS with a removable magazine Sir.
A removeable magazine that's pinned to 5 rounds anyhow.

For the ridiculous price people seem to think these things are worth on Gunnutz, you could buy another like new Russian SKS with a crate of 1440 rounds of ammunition lol
Or an SVT 40 with a crate of 880 rounds of ammunition.

Just my opinion Sir.

They were 300.00 brand new back in 92

To put it in perspective the good Ds went just shy of $300.00 back in the late early 90s. There was another version that went for less, it had the bayonet lug shaved off and non AK style mag release lever but still used AK mags. By the same token M1 carbines were going for $120.00 and I bought 10 M1 Garands at that time for $99.00 ea. It's all about supply and demand, look at what carbines a Garands are selling for now a days. SKS Ds are no longer made and the Chinese they have no intention of producing them from what a distributor told me. Safe to say in my IMHO that they are pretty accurately priced.

Yeah, the guy I got mine from paid $250 at a gun show 3-4 years ago. I got it cheaper because the rear site spring was broken. Just sayin, deals are out there. Like a mid 70's model 94 that I got for $200. You just gotta ask around. The EE is great for cases of "gotta have it," because there's usually one available. But if you can wait, you can find a better deal.

Dug up my old receipts, the year was 1998, Lever was selling the M1 Garands for $99 and I bought a 5 pack and then bought another 10 of the SELECTs for $165ea. The SELECTs had matching serial #'s (receiver and stock) and more time was spent to match components (all Springfield or Win). The guns were delivered disassembled and put together by a couple of guys in the back room. Buddy of mine was allowed to go back and choose what he wanted. Garand enblocs were cheap too, bought 80 for $50, Bought a 5 pack of SKS-Ds in 1997 for $375. I've sold most of them in the last 5 yrs. How about M14 kits, everything but the receiver and all USGI including fiberglass stock for $125, don't know if Lever had them but bought 5 kits at an auction around the same time (sold my last kit a few yrs ago, all TRW, no stock for $750). Had bought 3 stripped receivers in 95 for $99ea and fiberglass stocks for $40 from International Firearms in Quebec and put together 3 complete M14s and then sold them. Bought real 1907 slings for $10 and more enblocs for 25c ea at local gunshow. Those were the days!

best I've seen is $450 at the Orangeville gun show couple months ago. Would love to have one but their are other rifles out there for less that I would want first.

My exact feelings about the SKS-D....An SKS is a semi auto rifle, so what if it has a detach magazine...If you need a detach mag that bad go with an AR-15 and go with the ten round LAR mags....WTF....Ok so it's cheap, whatever...and it's history...blah blah blah...I've owned two SKS's a Chinese that I refinished the stock and it was gorgeous after the work I did and which I then sold...And one that I now own, a Russian which is great and which sits in my safe day after day...Haven't shot it in about 3 months or so...Why? I don't like iron sights...Do I want to upgrade it? Why? I have an MMR Hunter AR which is a gorgeous shooter as well as a nice bolt in the Savage Walking Varminter....both scoped...I really don't see the fascination with the SKS except for the price of ammo and a hard hitting larger caliber bullet... Anyway.. the SKS-D should go for about 350 at most....IMO...

I have 2 M models. I am still looking for a good "D" model. I am not desperate enough to pay $600 for one though. The "M" models are way pickier in terms of mag compatibility. Usually they require filling and fitting as not all AK mags are the same. I think the "D" model was more suited for the true AK mags. Just my opinion as I have had to modify most of mine.

I had to file & polish all the AK mags for my "D" model as well, including the ones it came with. Bought that one new in the '90's as well. Sometimes regret trading it off - but not really.

Never had to do any filing to fit mags, I still have a couple of 20,30,40 rd mags and 3 SKS-Ds and non shootable AK47s. Guess you can say 'get an AR if you want detachable mags' but the AR is Restricted. Could get a non-restricted AR180B but 3x the price. Picked up a couple of AK 30 mags that lock open the action on the last shot, only difference is the follower, has a hump that catches the bolt.
