So I have an sks in a tapco stock. Got it that way on a trade with a friend. One mag came with I think it's 5/20. I bought another, I'm not home at the moment but I believe promag 5/10. Took it out today and my usual mag performed flawlessly. The new one has a problem. It's as if the rounds are too low when they feed. I released the bolt and jammed the round below the chamber and shoved it into the casing. Tried again slowly to check alignment and it's super low

Upon inspection of mags they look identical. Mag lips same shaped the same. The new one needed some mod on the little tit on the back to snap into place but fits snugly

Any ideas

on all the sks and mag i got they all need some fitting , and i always had to remove some material on the duckbill where the mag get in the receiver , so insert the mag and remove it and try to find some dent on the magazine it will reveal if you need to file some area

Yeah I did that. All the scuffed areas and dents were filed down and the profile seems to be exact to the one that works but it just seems to sit too low in the mag well. I'll have to have a better look at it later.

Maybe your duck bill is catching wrong? Try taking the stock off and see if it seats nice to the receiver. It will let you see whats happening, If it sits well without the stock you may need to do some fitting to the stock or mags.

Are you putting the mag in with the bolt closed by any chance?

On my sks I had to file the front edges on the top of the mag that hold the bullets in place on a slight angle so the bullets can feed up and had to sand the wooden stock on the inside as the mag fits really tight in there
