I just sold a SKS to someone and now he has called saying the mag cap. pin broke off. Is there a way to fix this or dose he have to replace the mag? Is this common?

I'm not entirely sure, but you should be able to just re-pin it. There shouldn't be any need to replace the mag. Be careful though; and tell the guy you sold it to not to take it out to shoot until it's re-pinned. I believe that having a magazine capable of holding more than five rounds would make it a prohibited device.

it would be nice if you describe the rifle ... russian ? if so then he should send the mag to the dealer you bought it from, have it fixed properly .

On my M59 the block was just glued in with epoxy over the cosmoline. If it's like that, just degrease and re-glue. Mine fell of at the range, nearly gave me a heart attack! Kept thinking the ERT was going to swoop in.

How did you manage to keep it from going on an evil killing spree? Doesn't that pin keep the gun from going on rampages by itself? :)

When i first got my russian, i looked at the weld holding the pin on, and thought WOW! That is a ####ty looking weld....... I guess they arent relly welders doing the welding over in russia, mine looks like i could look at it the wrong way and it would fall off. Just a blob of weld holding it on, they didnt even remove the grease first, i would imagine there will be a few more like this.

Yep. I'd tell him to re-pin the mag on his rifle. If it was there and worked when you sold it to him, it's not really your problem. How long has it been? He may have been screwing around with it.

If it was mine, i think i would just get a peice of "L" shape angle iron, in aluminum or something, trim it to the same height as the pin that fell out and rivit it to the mag floor. Cheap and easy.

I was shooting with a buddy this last weekend and the welded rod on the magazine also fell out when i was loading the rifle with a stripper clip. I got really scared and wanted to go and turn myself in right away!

All this talk about pins and welds, anyone have images of these examples.
Makes me thankful, sounds like there are some sloppy ones out there...

Immediately after reading about this pin falling out of your SKS (causing it to become a dreaded prohib firearm!) I ran and hugged my wife and children to make sure they hadn't been affected by this newly-created baby killing machine. Thankfully, my quick action saved them. Please, re-pin that mag with all due dilligence--- THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

As Hungry put it at the last M14 Clinic:

1. Your #### will fall off.

2. It's a factory defect let me relieve your burden by buying the rifle off you for $50.00.
