SKS malfunction

also...as far as some comments, i guess some people have to go online and attack people for asking questions and trying to learn somthing or just start a general conversation. I thought that is what this website is all about? If they know everything they wouldn't have to be on a wesite like this::cheers:

Thank you, I was just trying to learn/trouble shoot something that I do not have a vast amount of familiarity with. Just wanted some helpful opinions and advice.

Any Russian refurb SKS comes from the arsenal covered in Cosmoline. It has to be detail stripped and completely cleaned of cosmo before it's safe to fire.

The problem you experienced is a classic case of a stuck firing pin causing the slam-fires. As noted already, the bolt MUST be disassembled and completely freed of cosmoline before reassembly. I use brake cleaner to clean the firing pin channel of cosmoline, and believe me it works great!

The "safety" on a SKS blocks trigger movement only. However, I don't think that even a sear block safety would have stopped the slam fires, as it won't catch the bolt and hold it open anyway.

Good to hear that no one was hurt during this experience.

Im not coming down on you, but some of the guys that dont offer useful advice are sometimes tired of people asking the same questions. If you had done any research or searched the forum you would probably have found the answer on your own. I dont particularily care but it annoys some people.

Tired of ppl asking same questions? if they don't like to answer a question, then they shouldn't make any comment at all, no one forcing them to answer, bottom line is if someone needs help, then they need help not a wise ass comment !!

Agreed! Fortunately most people responded with a sincere intent to help the OP. I'd like to think that is what CGN is about. Chasing off newer gun owners who pose legit questions/comments is counter-productive.

Nicely said, gents.

Like I said, I agree with you fellas. I was just trying to illustrate the other point of view. If every single person who has a problem or question, just asks it, then no point in storing old threads, and might as well burn down the libraries, cause they will be useless. I'm just saying, a little initiative would have solved his problem and kept those negative guys away. Learning from others experience is also a purpose of this board.

I completely agree about the search function and my comment was not directed to you. Nothing wrong with suggesting a search on a topic that is well covered. It's the condescending replies I don't agree with.

Cheers!

Having a search function that defaulted to looking back more than a week would be helpful to newbies. That's my biggest gripe with this software. The default should be something much longer.
