Hey guys,
First of all, I just wanna say I am using my budy's username, so forgive me( him) if my questions sound stupid, since I am new to this forum. ( I couldnt sign up yet since i don't have a local ISP based email).

Since I got both techincal and political questions regarding modifying my sks, I putting 2 separate postings under each category, if there is a better way to do this, please let me know.

Here are my sks questions:

1. is Tapco T6 stock non restricted? Would this modification limit my gun to range only? or can i still use it to hunt ( i know it's not a decent gun, but good enough for me for now) If I put it on my sks, do I have to inform the goverment, and get a new registration?

2. I want to scope it as well. And heard the ATI receiver plate with rail mount is descent. Now does anybody have any experience with it? Does it hold zero, if i file it properly and fit it snugly?

3. For the scope itself, since it will be sitting almost on top of the shell ejection path, is there a limitation to the lengh of the scope I can fit there? Or it doesn't matter as long as I get a shell defletor? Asking this because I never seem anybody who scoped an sks with a variable scope, only fixed zoom scope, either 3 or 4X 32

4. Once scope is mounted, it seems it will block the space for loading rounds if I want to use the clips, which means I have to get a removable mags for my gun. But my russion sks, doesnt have a removable mag like the chinese one. How do I get arround this problem? Or does the tapco stock allow for a removable mag? And what if I dont want to upgrade the stock, and just stick to the original wood stock? Can i still use removable mags?

5. i know people always say get it in canada, but given the descent price difference, anyone in here actually tried buying the stock in US, and bringing it here thru custom? Yes i know it's complicated, but by law, is it actually legal to import the stock? Since its just a piece of plastic, and i could be using it for a BB gun?
What about the railed receiver plate? Mags? And scope?

6. Lastly, i am in vancouver, and there are only about a handfull of shops here. So anybody know of a good place for me to get all this stuff?

Thanks alot for all the help!

Cheers

1. is Tapco T6 stock non restricted?

As long as the overall length is not reduced to below 26" by folding or telescoping of the stock you should be okay (i.e. non-restricted). I would expect with a regular length barrel on an SKS you could strap a pistol grip on there and it would still be long enough (although useless for most practical purposes). I don't have one so I don't know for sure, but it doesn't look like a bullpup stock (which are prohibited) so it should be fine.

6. Lastly, i am in vancouver, and there are only about a handfull of shops here. So anybody know of a good place for me to get all this stuff?

Canada is a relatively small market for gun parts, so your best bet is to look online (take a look at the CGN dealer banners up top--Fabsports is probably a good bet; they have lots of custom stocks and parts). You might be able to find what you're looking for by going to a few different local shops, but what different places keep in stock will be unpredictable. Finding special SKS parts may be a bit difficult. Maybe someone knows a good place though.

I don't have an SKS so I can't help you with any of the details of the scope, but I'm sure someone will come along eventually.

1. The T6 will keep your SKS unrestricted, even if you use it with the extend-able butt removed.

2. Get a scout mount scope mount form Marstar or find teapot2 on the forums here and get a side mount scope mount. Those are the only ways to go IMO.

3. In theory you can do whatever you want, but get that shell deflector.

4. Removable mags are around, the only place to get them right now is the EE. You can use them in the wood stock but you may have to file a tiny bit off the stock (like 1mm).

5. sksman.com in the us for a stock, but frontier firearms (sponsor above) or fabsports (also sponsor above) both have stocks and as a guy whos imported form the US it's worth the extra $5 to buy it inside Canada.
Marstar for the scope mount or teapot2 for the side scope mount. Mags are only available on the EE. DO NOT try to import mags. a 20 round mag is illegal in Canada, you need to find one pinned to 5. Teapot2 has some sweet scopes for the SKS, but any scope will fit.

6. No idea, sorry.

Welcome to the SKS club.

Yip....what he said. +1 on the scout mount from marstar...$$ but it is good. Reciever mounts don't perform....especially for hunting.

As for finding stuff you will most likely have to order in from various places...it can all be found in Canada....may take time to locate it all....The EE is a good place too.

Wow thanks a lot guys for the great info!

I guess you mean reciever cover mounts...

Reciever side mounted scopes are best performers.

TEAPOT2:
I checked out your link and I can see how the side mount will hold the zero. However I just checked out with my local shop, the taping for the mount is gonna cost me about 70 min, plus the mount it will be 120. And I believe there I still need a scope mount ring witch will be attaching the scope to the side rail, correct?
ALso, I believe you mentioned in the other thread that I will need to drill hole into the wood stock as well? Now will this set up work with the T6 stock, if i choose to swap the stock later?
However if I do use this side rail system, will it fit a longer scope and still accepting striper clips?

Dj_Squelch and ABCZAR:

I checked out marstar, dont dont have any side receiver scope mounts. Only receiver plate with rail mounts. And I dont think these were the ones you were refering to right? And they are also sold out. and arent these 2 the same?

Thanks for the tip about the MAGs, i will get them here.
But as for the stock, if i do order any from the SKS man, and get it shipped to point roberts and pick it up, is there any legal issues with that? I mean do i need any papers?

also which EE are you guys refering too?

Chore

EE=Equipment Exchange on this site..

Also check out the ATI Strikeforce for the SKS, I have one for my SKS and my 10/22 and I prefered this stock over the Tapco..

ATI-SKS8000.jpg

Fabs has both

The "scout" scope mount from marstar is the best non gunsmith mount you can get. Teapot2's stuff is the best period but it will cost you a few bucks extra. You will need to trim down the T6 stock if using it with teapot2's mount. It's really up to you, depends what your after.

$70 for two holes sounds outrageous. seriously, to drill and tap two holes in SKS could be done in less than 5 minutes with a coffee break between the holes...I will do it for you for free but you have to pay for shipping...
For POSP scopes beside the side rail you don't need any rings or anything at all. It just simply slides onto the side rail.
You don’t need to drill into the stock. The rail attached to the receiver and allows to take the rifle apart without removing the rail. You can change the stock at any time. Longer scope is not an obstacle for the loading from clips, wider scope is.

go with the ATI Strikeforce for the SKS... it's a thing of beauty and very easy for you to work with. i went with the NCS-DLB140R Red Dot Scope and Laser....great package....and you will love the looks

Ya thats what I thought when they told me 70 to 100 for the job at Reliable. I thought these guys were supose to be reasonable. I will see if i can ship it. I dont know what are the logistics for shipping a gun receiver. This is pretty big actually considering its the whole barrel as well.

For POSP scopes its not a problem because it already came with the scope mount in the pictures, so just slide it on. But what if i want a more modern scope, like a 3-9X32 or X 40 at 230mm lengh with 1 inch tube? Specifically this one:
http://www.leapers.com/production/p...er&level2=1 Inch&itemno=SCP-M392AOMDL&status=

How would i get the scope on to the rail?

wolf19534, the ati stock does look good, but aside from the folding feature, and the under rail, any other advantages compared to the T6?

For scopes from your example you would need rings http://www.leapers.com/production/prod_detail.php?mitem=Mounting%20Systems&itemno=RG18W-25L and bracket that slides on to the rail http://www.leapers.com/production/prod_detail.php?mitem=Mounting%20Systems&level1=AK&level2=Receiver%20Mount&itemno=MNT-978&status=

I will have bracket mounts made in Russia in couple weeks.

Hey TeaPot2
Sorry for getting back to you earlier. Been busy with work

Anyways, i looked around vancouver quite a bit of a gun smith, the reputable ones actually refused to do the job, saying that they cant garantee it will hold zero, which makes me doubt the ones that are accepting the job.

Either way I think I want to give it a shot.
Now which rail should i be ordering from your site? There are 2 there. And is there some kind of special screw that I need? Or just regular taping will do? Looking at the receiver for my SKS, the plate really doesn't look that think to hold...

Now since i cant get a scope mount without an POSP scope, would this work with your rail mount?
http://w w w.kalinkaoptics.com/sks-svd-mount-w-1-rings.html
And which shell deflector should i get?

cheers

Who ever say's that about the side "drill & tap" mount is :onCrack:
As for mount's you might as well just get it from TeaPot2 and the scope for that matter. Don't waste your money. Heck you might as well just ask him to see if he will do the whole job for ya.
As for most of the "gun smith's" in vancouver...
Well lets just say if you want some work on a bolt action or a shotgun there straight aces but when it comes to stuff like this. Well to put it nicely. You will most likely know more about this rifle then they would. Even though they are all selling them & work on firearms for a living. As for optic mounting in the lowermainland I would talk to these two CGNer's for some insight as they are always tinkering with these rifle's.

If you have decided on a Drill and Tap mount. I would suggest the Weaver Converta Mount, it wins hands down over Choate. The product that Teapot2 sells is a great product if you like that style of setup. For me I perferred the "Over the Barrel" syle of mount. There is some fabrication involved with the Weaver mount but it is worth it in the end
