Recently, I've just installed an archangel stock onto my SKS. I'm aiming to modernize it and my original plan was to have these mods:

Archangel Stock
Fore grip+Mount ??
Red Dot Scope ??
5/30 ProMag
Muzzle Piece ??

For ?? What would you recommend?

One thing I was having difficulty with was finding a scope and a mounting solution for it, I've read that the scope mounts that come as the back piece lose the zero, however I'm looking for a scope mount to sit on the back ( preferably ) not going over the chamber. I'm only looking for a small scope to give a little bit of magnification and a dot.

Lastly, if there is anything else you would recommend I'd like to hear it, thanks!

Sounds like good choices to me !

Id suggest a drill & tap rail to support your optics, and on top of that maybe the Primary Arms 7.62x39 4x optic ( i have no experience with this optic though). Hical.ca can thread you SKS muzzle for AK brakes for $69, it wont be perfect, but it will be far better than all the clamp on / pin brakes. Id also recommend the sevensixtwo systems mag release, it will require you to mod your mags slightly, but it is hands down one of the best mag releases on the Canadian market.

This is Sasha, My current take on a "modern SKS" It features all the mods I suggested except I went with the Russian side mount optic. Which id only recommend if you really enjoy the added "Russian touch".

The scope mount we suggest is the Trueshot one. It is a drill & tap, but only 2 holes & the mount acts as a guide. It is small, you can still use stripper clips, and it has a built in adjustable peep sight, like the Tech sight. look at them HERE.

We also have a huge inventory of SKS accessories, in stock, HERE

I'm going to be that guy. Save your money. Do some trigger work and tighten up the stock fitment (bedding/shims). Upgraded sights couldn't hurt. I'm

Strongly agree here.
Those are the only "improvements" you're going to do that matter.
Other than that you aren't really modernizing it so much as slapping cheap plastic crap all over it, weighing it down, making it unwieldy and probably even less accurate in the process because of the junk plastic stock etc
The awesomeness of the SKS is in it's true original form Sir. Light, balanced, reliable, simple and rugged and dirt cheap to buy and feed!
Think of how much ammo you can buy with all the money you will spend on that junk.
The more you shoot the SKS (if you actually take the time to shoot it properly and not bullet hose from the hip at microwaves in the woods etc) the more you realize it's potential as is. Just my observation but most new guys buy the rifle and a trunk load of garbage "tactical" stuff at the same time and never even shoot the thing as is to get a baseline of what the gun actually can and can't do.
These are just my personal opinions and probably not very popular but take it from someone who went down those roads at least once a while ago lol

I really like the SKS in its stock form, that is why I plan to get another for that purpose. This one has been stock for a few years and the reasons for modding is wanting a pistol grip and scope.

You can get a replica SKS PU mount kit for $200 CAD from Accumounts. $400 for the kit with a replica PU scope. You can get a Vomz for cheap on the EE.

Awesome, I found a reasonable priced Vomz, not entirely sure yet if I'll go through all the work of mounting it from the side though

The Wartak, or Magwedge rails would be the second best option for you then. Keep in mind the Vomz and PU scopes are nice and all, but they dont really offer any advantages over something like the PA 4x 7.62x39 optics and other western optics in the same price range.

Interesting, Also I'm looking for a metal mag, is there any that I should watch out for - and what are some good ones?

Do you have one that sits higher? I like to be able to look through the scope when shooting from the hip... that one looks almost high enough.

The only aftermarket mags I can personally vouch for is the Tapco, and Pro Mags. Id stay away from the Baur ones.... If your looking for a stubby one that is similar in size to the original mag, Pro mag makes a 10rder pinned to 5.
