SKS Mount Question

Tried searching for this but couldn't find any threads.
I'm thinking of getting a Red dot sight for my SKS and after researching all the various ways of getting it done, I've decided that the best option for me is to have it mounted where the current rear sights are.

That has pretty much left me with the Scout Scopes mount and the BC Tactical Mount to choose from

Does anyone have any experience with either? I'm really liking the BC Tactical one but can't really judge by looking at the pics on their site how long the rail is.

Will I be able to mount either a Truglo Tru-Brite or a Sightmark Ultra Shot QD? Those two are the top ones on my list but I am a little worried that they will pretty much mount right over the ejection port and get damaged by spent casings.

Please advise if anyone has experience with either mount and/or optics.

Please do not suggest any of the full rail options out there since they are all over 100 and above my budget.
 
If you (or a good buddy) are tool savvy, you can fabricate a receiver side mount for under $100.00 cash outlay and some time. I made an angle iron scope mount for mine and by leaving a longer nose on the mount, I can put any optic I wish without fear of the ejected casings hitting it. Admittedly, the mount has to be removed for a full disassembly of the rifle, but for cleaning the barrel and the gas tube it works just fine. It also seems to go back to zero when I re-attach it after a full break down. Check out the pics, and if you like what I've done, PM me and I'll give you a step-by-step guide to the process. Lot's of luck on whatever you decide. As an added bonus, it tends to deflect all the brass into a tighter area than normal.
 
Looks like I will be going with the Scout Scopes option since the BC Tactical doesn't appear to be long enough to at-least try and protect the front of the lens from spent casings.
Will post a pic of the finished product once its all done.
 
I was also hoping to do the same on my SKS. I still wanted to be able to use the stripper clips and since it's not a tack driver I wasn't interested in a scope. I am not familiar with red dot or holographic type sights but was wondering if this type of rail (mounted where the rear sight goes) would make the sight really far forward on the gun? Anyone have any experience? How far should a sight like this be from your eye?
 
You can use stripper clips with a choate type mount you just need a short scope. The scout set up is very far from your eye so a red dot or a long eye relief pistol type scope will work. Probably need around 10" of eye relief

I bought the one from Marstar $100.00 with the scope and mount (came together in a kit form) works great, for a cheap scope. And YES you can still use stripper clip.
 
IMO the optic mount from marstar sucks even if you have the set screws tight and threadlocked, because there is too much play in the dust cover that it mounts too (especially with the bolt back). I am going to weld one up and tap the receiver like lawrenceN did. any of the side mounts will be better than the dust cover mounts, if you can drill and tap. I really like the wartak rail but my local shops want $150 then you need to buy mags because you cant use stripper clips then.
