Greetings,

The SKS I am getting no longwer has the front sight. What are my options if I want to have a muzzle brake on the rifle? Forgive the newb question, but before this, if it wasn't a cowboy gun, I didn't know much about it.

Thanks,

Matt

I have wondered about this. If the front sight/bayonet mount are removed, can you thread the thinner portion of the barrel?

With all due respect, why do you think an SKS needs a muzzle brake? Do you flinch at the recoil of a .22 as well? (they are about the same, IMO)

very few rifles need a muzzle break, but most can benefit from one. The guy asked a simple question. do you think Dlask, Neit, NEA and the like are all a bunch of wussies who cant handle their 858's? no, they improve them with innovative parts that enhance the rifle. to the OP, check out cncwarrior dot com, they make an M14x1r die starter for 7.62mm bore that aligns an M14 die to thread the muzzle. And BTW the SKS muzzle O.D. is exactly 14mm. Then you can run any VZ58 muzzle you want.

sks recoil? What is this thing you speak of?....Standing, rapid fire,I would figure it would help to keep on the bulls....thats all.....Not that an sks has much recoil, and I don't think a break would change the little that's there anyhow.Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the whole point of a muzzle brake to evenly disperse muzzle gases to help in the holding of your muzzle on target?.....and no I don't need them on my .22's....or a bolt action....or a shot gun....or a ahhh nevermind!:(

I put one on mine. It's a big, heavy job, that twists on and is held by one screw. I got it to reduce muzzle jump and give me better quick follow up shots. It does it's job well. Cost me about $15 with shipping from ebay.

I dont have a bayo on my SKS-D so Ill be threading mine, but for the time being I use an NC Star pin on brake that works alright. Its not much louder but not super effective either...

NC Star makes a fairly heavy brake. It's reasonable... the first and only aftermarket brake i've ever put on, but the difference is actually noticeable.
