sks muzzle brake

I wonder if a shorter Barrel length might be responsible for some seeing a fireball/flash and others not? And some SKS have shorter barrels.

I know this is the case when I use a shorter barrel on my Maverick 88 shotgun...big fireball! :D

"mall-ninja-tactical-tasmanian-devil-blaster " i love that, just got back from my weekend and glad to see the responses. ya,its a" FUN GUN" i started with a goal .[take an inexpensive rifle, learn a few things about bedding, try to make it look better [to me] and make it a handy ,quick target acquesition carbine with quick followup shots,] i already had a druganov stock to play with ,although not my first choice as they are long in the butstock, but this has been fixed now by removing some length from it.mounted a red dot [an aimpoint clone for now] the last thing to do is this, thanx for some very good post on this by the way,and finally get down to doing some reloads as well.i have to admit ,the rifle just doesnt look right to me without something on the end of that barrel.perhaps its because i've removed the front site, perhaps not, but, like someones already said , if i'm going to put a brake on this it may as well serve some function other than just looks.squeezing off quick successive shots and still hammering the paper is the goal .why? why not. ps i'll try to post a pic when its done.

You're right, it would look a little more complete with something on the end of the barrel  Looks good though, much better with the red-dot on it than the scope you had on there before :D Found the muzzle brake info page on simonov.net (SKS Muzzle Brake Info), that might help you out a bit. Good luck!

"Muzzle jump is a direct result of recoil... "
Not that dumbdumb to be unaware of that obvious fact, but thanks for bringing us up to your own rank... ;) I just don't like then target jumps out of scope's field of view after shot, regardless what the target is.

Well, I'm glad to have you join me... :p

Which leads me to point #2 -

Who puts a scope on an SKS?

Hehehe! j/k, guys, j/k! Now, here's a good looking SKS:

;)

The ugly ones are the nice ones...

p.s. I've never had a problem with this Norc!

she's a beauty monty ,whats going on with the handguard?soot?:)
The guy I bought it from had one of those goofy plastic Dragunov stocks on it, but he also sent me the original stock. (He painted the handguard to match the black plastic, but the paint is all chipping away. I think he used Testor's model paint... )
Anyway, I swapped out the plastic POS stock for the original POS stock. :D

LOL, so true! Kinda like trucks :D Nuthin' finer than a beat up, rusty old Ford. I'm dead serious. My first vehicle when I turned 16 was a '78 Ford F250 Custom. Looked like a piece of crap, lemme tell ya, but man was it fun. And tough. And dead reliable. Just like an SKS :D

BTW Monty, what did you do with the dragunov stock? Do you still have it?

No worries Monty  I've got one in the mail right now actually, but a buddy of mine (who plans on buying an SKS as soon as he gets his PAL) wants a dragunov stock for his as well. Chicken before the egg, if you ask me, but he told me to keep an eye out for him, and what are friends for, y'know? lol!

I just got my SKS in the mail, and even with the pad on, it's F*CKIN SHORT!!!!! Grampa's old Cooey was longer than this thing... I'll take it for a workout when I go to Wildwood at the end of the month.... I'm already eyeing a longer stock for it though :p

as for recoil, I dunno about the brake yet... i'll know in a couple weeks when I put some lead downrange.

When you do take it out...think more Shotgun then rifle. :D

I think shooting technique, and shorter then usual stocks are the reason some find these less accurate then they really are.

Enjoy the new toy Grizz...plan to have a big grin. :D

the druganov stock is definately longer,i just cut 1 3/4 " out of her.it is now the same length from trigger to end of buttsock as my GI m14 stock, feels alot better for what i want it for.

My biggest problem with the Dragunov stock was not the length, but rather the cheekpiece. Even set down as low as possible it was still awkward with open sights - for me, anyway. I think it's the way to go if you're going to scope it and want the extra length, though. I'm not a little guy by any means but I like the original stock for fit just fine. Whatever works for ya, right?

Bah! Hardly! Girly men everywhere! :p j/k, Calum. Have you shot one? I've even rapid fired mine (the whole 5 rounds we're allowed  ) and it's really no problem. ;)

I'm looking at the Tapco.... Even though it's really ugly, and bordering on blasphemy for the M4 and SKS purists alike, I like the idea, because this is one rifle that I'll VERY LIKELY loan out to my non-shooter friends to learn them the fun factor of the x39 ;)

Like this one?:

I like that better than the Dragunov. Blasphemy shmashphemy! It's an SKS! If it's a Norc, have at it. I mean, if it's an original Russian m45, I'd keep it stock, but...

edit: having said that I still like the original look and feel... ;)

That's the one. Yes, i have a Nork. Would I like a Russkiy or Yugo stock on mine? sure would, but I'd be doing a disservice to everyone with a Russian or Yugo SKS by doing so. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the Lumber for one of those rifles is worth more than my Nork!

I'm not too crazy about the Tapco T6. The useless fake plastic 20mm rail on top of the handguard bugs me, as does the extend-o AR buttstock. Overall I just think it looks hack-job. That's just my personal opinion though :D

I do like the dragunov style stock though. It doesn't really even look like a dragunov (and if you wanna get technical, it's only "dragunov inspired", in fact it's not even called a dragunov stock, it's a "fiberforce" stock!), it's much boxier and tupperware-looking. The ATI folder looks good too, in fact if I had the choice between an ATI folding stock and a Tapco T6 I'd take the folder without a moment's hesitation. Once again, just my personal opinion :D
