Ok, completely new to an SKS but I’m getting very interested. Concisely, could someone explain the basics-i.e. fixed vs. removable mag. Refurb-how to tell. New or refurb-which is better? Stamped vs milled. Chinese vs Soviet. Who sells them for how much. Accuracy etc. Thanks everybody.

look in this red rifle thread at the "stickies"(top-most posts)
there is an "sks basics" and a "russian sks45 faq".
start there...

check out the stickies, lotsa good info.

Russian is best. Fixed mag is "stock" on them. Refurbs have markings. (info in the stickies) Bought mine for 279 through epps. Accuracy isn't all that bad. It ain't a sniper rifle as it was made for suppression fire and relatively straight shooting. Shots good tho. (depends very much on the rife you have and the condition of the barrel etc.) I only have one for now but I've researched them alot. Gonna buy more when I have the money... hihi, one of each

At the current prices the best deal would be one of the Bell black bolt Russian refurbs from Yorkton Home Hardware. They are going for $199 plus tax and shipping. For that price they can not be beat if you're looking for a shooter.

Rcloud where are you located?? They are extremely simple to use and maintain. I have a few hundred through my Russian already and can't wait till the weekend to put a few more through it. The Norc's ahve some issues with fit and finish, alot of refurbs have the bolt painted, the Yugo's have the nicer slide handle but are hard to find. Detatchable mags are hard to find but a few of us are looking pretty hard.

It's kind of a sickness. You buy one then you want more and more. Just think....you can buy a solid tank of a rifle and a case of 1120 rounds of surplus ammo for less than 1120 rounds of non-corrosive. So if you don't feel like cleaning out your gun after shooting corrosive you could just throw the gun out and buy another for less than just buying the non-corrosive stuff. :D But please contact me if you ever get the idea you want to throw out an SKS!!!! :p

Exc. example.....................just like a printer............its cheaper to buy a brand new printer with cartridge than just buy the cartridge itself:p

Ok, I want one. I would prefer an unfired one but a quality refurb is ok too. Russian over Chinese made as well. I like quality, as much as possible. Where is my best bet for buying one?

If you're looking for a safe queen, try Ed at Moving Target. If he's out try Gary at Chilliwack Dart & Tackle. Both places have unrefurbs and refurbed IZH bright bolt. They are more expensive though.

Thanks guys, what about pricing? Refrub vs Unfired, Chinese vs Russian. I know there will be a range but in the ballpark. Thanks
