hey guys i bought my sks a year ago and im finally thinking about doing some things to it. in not to sure what type it is, i know its made by norinco so i think its a type 56? lol i dont know much about theese. i hear alot about the chineese being in accurate but im shooting the corosive cheep ammo and placing 3" grouping at 50 yards and about 5 and 100'' is that about right for cheep ammo in an sks? also i see the sks D, is the only difference the detachable mag? And if so is there any way to make mine have detachable mags? i just want to find out what exactly i can do to this gun any thaughts?

Thanks

Read the sticky's in Red rifles,a wealth of information. Also just google SKS parts.

You can make yours a detatchable mag by using a Zytel, Tapco, or metal "duckbilled" magazine. All you do is pop the steel mag out and reassemble the gun. The downfall is that unless you do the bolt modification the mags can only be changed with the action open, I have not had any issues with that or find it the hardship some make it out to be.

What else were you thinking about doing?? I have had a few tapco stocks, with non folding adjustable but piece and they are ok. The upper gas tube fits very tight afterwards which is a good thing. My next one is getting the folding ATI though, the folding option isn't that huge a deal but the nice look with adjustable butt piece is the feature that sold me.

Sorry but they all have to be pinned to 5 rounds or they are prohib. Noone US side will ship to canada anymore. I have to go state side and bring my stuff back myself, it usually is no big deal but my last trip was awful at the border. I had all my ducks in a row but the border agent had no clue. I ended up crossing with all my stuff but it has made me leary of another trip. If you are vigilant you can snag them on the EE for an average of 50-60 bucks a piece.
