So I've shot my SKS before, but never enough to really warm it up. Man does the poi ever shift! The difference between a cold bore and a toasty warm bore is near 6" at around 75 yards. Groups are fairly tight cold or warm. Would the stock be causing this or is it just the nature of the beast? It's sitting in an ATI stock right now.

At least you can tell the difference in poi on yours. At 50 yards mine grouped around 8-10" in -30 or +30 it didn't matter. At 100 yards lucky to hit a 18x18 board a few times out of 10 rounds.

dont know what wrong with your guys guns..
my Russian sks can pick off fist sized half pound exploding targets at 100m

usually second shot so my groups are around 4 inch hot or cold @100m with surp ammo

trigger control?
pulling jerking of the trigger?
or perhaps the rifling is wearing out depending if your shooting a refurb or old un refurb sks

I think as shooters we automatically look to the gun for answers regarding accuracy discrepancies...rather than looking at ourselves.

You may want to try zeroing it (if you haven't already done so) using the 25 meter target and adjusting with a tapco sight wrench. I haven't noticed that sort of poi change shooting 100 odd rounds which is what I typically let off at the range.

I got lucky, mines a 1950 Tula and although it's a referb it's almost all matching. Not sure if it mattered but is a lettered serial #? None the less, Vlad and his guys put it together for me in an ATI stock at West Rifle (great guys!). I asked for a good 'Cart around shooter' and a Vlad told me himself "I know what u want. I will pick you a good one!" And he did!

Although the trigger needs some work, once you get used to it, This thing is a laser inside 100-200m with iron sights! With just about anyone shooting it. However, once it gets too hot, ya do notice things start to drift a bit. Then again, I just figure it's me by that time:)

Sounds like something an SVT 40 would do..... but not an SKS, My SKS barrel walks maybe an inch to 2 inches when it gets hot; but not no 6"s ! something is wrong with your gun, or shooting technique.

My rifling and bore are quite good. Honestly, I don't think it's me. If I zero it with a cold bore, it's great. Until it warms up. If I zero it with a warm bore, it'll be off when is cold. I'll take it out tomorrow with original stock. Final zeroing was done with a warm bore, so I'll find out for sure.

I'll certainly look at trigger control as well, but my other rifles aren't behaving the same way. I'm leaning towards the rifle so far...

Forgot to mention, its got a scope on it. I wonder if my scope is going wonky....

loose stock= loose groups

If you remove the trigger mech and the receiver comes out of the stock easily, then its too loose. A tight OEM wood stock will out shoot a ATI plastic stock any day.

My sks is in an Archangel stock super tight fit no movement. Barrel cut down to 18.75 inch and recrownd. Hot or cold 1 1\2 to 2 inch groups at 100y. Alot of people say a sks cant hit a barn, but with a little work and if your a good shot they can be accurate.
I was shooting out to 200y last time at range and getting around 5 inch groups.
The sks is better than ya think.
Also the crowns on these refurbs are usaly beat, take a good look at yours.

Were SKS tested for accuracy when they were refurbished, before they were stored away? I recently bought three Russian SKS and each one shoots very differently.
I shoot them in rotation on the same day and use the same ammo, starting with 20 rounds at 25 yards then 20 at 50 yards, finally 10 rounds at 100 yards. So far: my 1950 Tula gets three inch groups at 25yds, 6'' at 50 and 12'' at 100yards (I am a new shooter with old eyes) my 1954 Izhevsk gets 5'' at 25, 10'' at 50 and 24'' at 100 my 1952 Tula gets 10'' at 25yards and 24'' at 50yards, I have not bothered to shoot it at 100 (it is my best looking rifle with a very nice stock, real bluing and a polished bayonet, maybe it was used for parade or drilling and bayonet use has bent the barrel?). Is getting an accurate SKS a matter of chance or do they all have to be tightened up and accurrized?

Sounds like how mine was.
On mine trigger was really good, rifling was good no pitting or anything. My other rifles I can shoot moa pretty easily the sks was not one of them.

No SKS was ever tested for accuracy during refurb lol. Surplus gun stocks tend to dry out in time and can become looser when they were first issued. Linseed oil is a good way or rehydrating the wood, if that is your issue. I hate to say it but if your getting 5" groups at 25m, then it is 100% you.

i have two, really pretty one that groups around 6" at 100 and a really ugly beatup POS the groups at about 2.5" at 100 with surplus. never noticed any difference in groups at warm or cold, but don`t shoot groups with them anymore now that i know where they shoot. just cans, yotes, tannerite, holes, squirrels, the ground, whatever. they fun guns and i`m happy with them, and they both look the way Ivan intended.

well said .. I have done some mods on mine to get better grouping .. this morning at 100yrds cold or hot same results 20 shots grouping was about 5 inches across and I don't have it quite dialed in im sure I can get it better with time.
