SKS not a hunting rifle?

The whole "not a hunting rifle" thing is ANTI GUN PROPAGANA. They're all hunting rifles, I don't care if it's an SKS, an AR 180B, or a fifteen pound long range bench rifle. They can all be hunted with successfully, and probably have been. Lets not buy into other people's narrow definitions.

X2 as long as you use a proper bullet/caliber combo for the game you can hunt with any firearm

I have an sks and have found 2 uses for mine.One is to take someone to the range with and let them shoot off a hundred rounds and not worry about the cost.
The second is for calling coyotes in the brush when your shooting lane is under a hundred yards and more than one coyote shows up.Shooting at deer at 500 yards with an sks isn't going to work any better than bowhunting deer and taking 80 yard shots.You can't fault the tool thats used poorly.

Enfields were not designed as hunting rifles either, but likely a TON of game has been taken with the venerable old .303

Literally tons of game hs been taken with surplus military rifles in our hunt camp, mosty enfields and mausers

I don't see why not, .308 vs .311 diameter...I just wouldnt drag your boresnake through your SKS after firing corrosive ammo, and then through another rifle.

An SKS firing a 7.62 Russian will do anything a .30-30 will, and as much as people love to dispute it's merits, it will kill anything you are likely to hunt.

I'm voting Liberal to ensure that the SKS is restricted, or even better, banned as it should be.

In my opinion it doesnt matter what the rifle looks like , if it goes bang you can hunt with it!! Some people just like to stick with the traditional image of a "hunting" rifle! If my AR wasnt restricted I would hunt with it too! Then Dion and all the libs could not say that my AR has no sportiong purpose !

I use mine around the farm to shoot coyotes...When we could farm kill beef (government screwed us on that) I used it all the time to shoot the wild cattle we couldn't get in the barn. Goes bang every time.

I have no problem with someone hunting responsibly with an SKS. But even a bubba'd $150 LE in .303 is a vastly superior hunting rifle.

While it wouldn't be my first choice it has a lot of the qualities you need in a bush gun for deer. It's about the lightest round I'd use (same with 30-30) but is a quick handling rifle with more than adequate accuracy that will deliver reliable follow up shots if necessary. Frankly, I know guys who carry far less suitable "hunting" rifles into the bush.

If a well proven design isn't working for you, you should investigate further before forming an opinion. It must have had some mechanical or ammo issues. If nothing else mil arms are reliable. IMHO
