sks not feeding

Just picked up my first sks today, a nice laminate.. of course it wo
nt feed at all. If i pull the handle back it just hits the tip of the bullet into
the mag when it should be going upwards. If i try to
chamber one round it will push the bullet downwarda
Into the bottom of the mag.. tried 200 rounds and only
2 magazines loaded properly.

What gives? Think ill take it back tomorrow

Maybe the mag blocker in your mag is too high or on a funny angle?

sounds like the mag is mis-aligned, take it out,, clean,, and re-install

When you say stock mag,, are you saying the plastic tapco mags or the original steel ten round mag pinned to 5 rds?

I had the exact same problem with my SKS. The SKS can be pinned to 5 rounds either by two ways ... either by placing a rod pinned to the magazine or onto the follower. My SKS came with a pin attached to the follower. Keep in mind the follower is supposed to be able to rotate freely, but mine couldn't rotate because the pin stiffened the rotation pin. So I took a pair of pliers and rotated the follower to the proper angle and now it works perfect. Hope this helps!

Is it every round or just the first that is the problem?

If it's just the first, are you letting the bolt fly home or letting it back easy? Gotta let the bolt go, and let the spring slam it home.

There have been several threads lately that when they welded the pin on the bottom of the mag follower it siezed u the follower on the arm and won't let it pivot. Make sure the follower can pivot inside the mag.

Remove the mag then reattach. Ensure the front lip of the mag is seated properly into the notch at the bottom of the barrel.

It sounds like mag seating issue to me. However, this is not the first reported case of such issues with the mags limited by a crude block rivitted to the follower.

Well let me be the third with same issue. Today was my first time out with it and it did not want to feed at all.

Pic 1&2 shows the cartridge in the magazine. I allowed the action to slam foreword but it does not slide forward as it should. I think the front of the cartridge should be angled up pointing toward the barrell but it sits perfectly parallel. Any help with this would be great. Anyone can take a pic of how it should look pls.

I had the same problem. The follower was riveted too tight to the plug that limits to 5 rounds. I had to use a punch to drift the rivet pin just enough to free it up. After that it just needed a little twisting to free it up. Now it works perfect.
