I have a Norinco SKS, which I really enjoy. It's completely stock, all I've done is take the bayo off (any ideas on how to get the lug off?)

My wife shot it the other day for the first time, and didn't care for the recoil.

Opinions: what's the best way to overcome this, that doesn't include telling her to man up about it- that won't go over well.

cheers,

AL

Gas tube mod, recoil pad and a brake will all help with recoil. For the lug I would personally use a zipcut then flapper disc on an angle grinder, then reblue. For hand tools, hacksaw then file it round, sand smooth and reblue.

The SKS is kind of a heavy rifle as it is, because of that The recoil never bothered me at all (i'm a small guy btw).
My first thought would be a recoil pad for the stock. This will however lengthen your length of pull by a bit.
I think you can get buffers if you put it in a tapco stock. If you're willing to do that to a perfectly fine rifle :p

I don't know what else to say other then maybe bring a smaller caliber when your wife comes with you to the range.

Thanks for the advice guys- we're both quite tall (she's 6'5", that's not a typo), so adding a little length isn't an issue. She is, however, a wuss with little pain tolerance (don't tell her I said that).

I did put a generic butt-pad on it at one point, but it was built for a shotgun and didn't really fit right. I'd like something a little more stock-specific, any thoughts on a brand?

Try doubling up on ear protection, sometimes noise is perceived as recoil.

If she doesn't have to carry it far add weight to the rifle. The bayonet back on and some lead shot in the but stock. If you reloaded you could make up some wife only reduced loads. Don't buy her a guide gun for Christmas:D

adding weight is a good idea... The problem is that with the bayo on I get really tempted to charge at stuff, and I'm sure the rest of the guys at the club don't appreciate it... remove the temptation you know?

She fired the AR, which is just as loud, no problem.
