SKS Optic advice

Love those monte carlo stocks... wish they were closer to $100. I wonder if those tech sights could be added to an SKS with a Choate scope mount.

Nice scope setup...

But I can't drill and tap my all match # 1955/56 Tula...
Its not worth alot but I just can't do that... :p

One of the inherent issues I've found with the SKS stock is that when you have it properly butted against the shoulder, its a bit of a strain to get the cheek low enough to rest on it. Its one of the reasons why I like the idea of those Tapco Timbersmith wood monte carlo stocks (as pictured above), that have the built in cheek rest.

The tibersmith stock worth every penny, longer buttstock, rised cheekrest and the buttstock is really beefier so the rifle is much more balanced, even with the bayonet !!!
But if you want to keep the bayo, you have to custom slot the stock... Honestly that looks harder that it is actualy !!!

You have another monte-carlo option, wich is less expensive : composite monte-carlo !!!

From what I can see on the photos, I think you can use the Techsights with your setup, should have enough clearance...

Wow, leave for a weekend, and BAM! I really like this forum. Thanks for all the advice. So I went to a gun show in Springbank, and a kid there sold me on a bc tactical with a red dot he assured me would fit. Well, first I can't get the mount to fit, it sits about a full cm too high. I could grind it, but grinding off a full cm would destroy he thing. Plus the red dot he sold me on doesn't fit the mount anyway. Well this has not gone as I would have liked at all.

Can't get a BC tactical to fit? should need no grinding of any kind, simply remove the rear sight and fit into place.. maybe a picture, who knows what he sold you,,

My thoughts precisely. It does have BCTactical engraved on the side and SKS on the top. But It was a SERIOUS B***H to get in place, and it doesn't even come close to fitting right.

The video didn't say ANYTHING about taking out the sight spring, I assumed that was a part of what held it into place so well. and if you mean those little threaded hex bolts that come with the mount, then yes. yes I did. Although now the front one is stripped from trying to force the thing to level out. AAAAARGHH!

ok,, not a total loss,, once you get the spring out PM me and I may be able to tap a new thread,, your in Calgary right?

this is something bc tactical should do

I'll say it again. This forum rules. Anyhow. The problems will persist. It won't need to be tapped, as the threads are fine. But the bolt head is stripped. I'm sure someone handier than me knows how to remove that. The other issue is removing the cross pin is gonna be tough. But I'm sure that's just a matter of working it with a punch and some pliers.

Well I figured out tonight that I am my own worst enemy. After reading some advice, I watched the video again and noticed a brief mention of the spring plate that was supposed to come out. Well I never removed it. Long story short that was the source of all my problems. Everything traces back to that. Including me beating the hell out of the mount to jam into place, and warping the rear rail valley which is why the red dot doesn't fit. Well I've fixed the valley, now I think I may remove the whole thing and install it right to ensure it doesn't wiggle. My only concern is will is still fit now after some minor grinding? Perhaps I am destined to spend another $75.

Good luck! If you post up some close-up pics, some of the members more adept at smithing might be able to chime in. I have no problems with anything mechanical, but I haven't done anything beyond a field-strip on a firearm, yet.
