Sks or vz58?

Bad finish? You haven't seen my collection! Not to dis the VZ or even the AR, but there is nothing more reliable and simple to maintain than a proper functioning SKS. There are some pretty rough refurbs out there, coupled with the fact that they're over 60 years old that most people shoot low grade surplus fodder through-- level the playing field and you might be surprized.

I think an SKS + ATI stock would be nice. I'm not a fan of the bargain basement wood. IMO - if it has wood, it has to have a nice finish. If it's just a functional finish like it is on the SKS, then I might as well go plastic. An SKS for $199 + an ATI stock for $120 is a hard combination to beat.

I agree

What did I say about the SKS? [QUOTE/]

This:

You made the right decision. The SKS is pretty sh!tty in terms of finish and is heavy. I would not in any way find it pleasurable to shoot or own. SKS is purely a bush-whacking crown-land plinker [QUOTE/]

Yes the VZ is lighter ... but I have never found the SKS heavy ... I work for a living so maybe that has something to do with it.

Oh... beware the cracking bolts! there is a thread near the top of the Red Rifles forum about it

I gotta chime in... How does the CZ/VZ nice looking but the SKS is crappy looking? Take that big pointless banana off the bottom (Witch just really gets in the way) And its almost the same gun lol. But I will say, after upgrades or bubba's or tactigay, whatever you want to call it to make yourself feel better about keeping a big hunk of 200 dollar metal original, the VZ comes out prettier. I think the new ones with the M4 stocks on them look god AWFUL. That folding metal stock will always look best in my opinion.Speaking of which, will we be getting more like that? Without the M4 stock and plastic grip? I wanna buy one and put the B&T magwell adapter on it. I have gotten used to the front heavy SKS by now too, but I could see why people would whine about that.

Faulty batch from csa, I have yet to have a single problem with either of my cz858s. In fact I am so impressed by both my czs I am currently looking for a third cz858 for myself.
