Sks owners - convince me

See link at bottom in my signature... go look at three of my SKS's...
they are great rifles and totally undervalued... and yes, I own rifles that cost between 2 and 3 K... so I have basis to say they are "great". :D

I had a chinese sks... My first one, its a love afair no one should live without experiencing.
I just sold her a few days ago, and miss her already.

She was a pretty thing. Good looking butt stock, nice smooth action, and was up for it everytime i wanted to shoot.:D

I need another like a hole in the head, but I do love those guns.:)

I had one then sold it. LOP was horrible, it blew back burnt powder in my face when shooting, and was just all around uncomfortable for my taste. Maybe it was just my specific rifle as I have not shot anyone else's,.It was reliable and accurate though. But I traded it in for a cz858, much better imho.

My Chinese one had the bad habit of slamfiring...once every few mags, it would do a two-three round burst. Initially I suspected cosmoline in the firing pin channel, but after a through cleaning, still no culprit(maybe firing pin itself); anyways I sold it a year later.:)

was my first real rifle and the only one ive bought brand new. man there cheap and fun i always end up grabbing it and my semi .22 to go plinking and honestly the .22 gets left at home more and more. ammo is cheap the fmj surplus is cheap and they are crazy easy to break down and clean. just do it i highly doubt you will regret it

It is but the sks is 1/3 of the price and has a chrome lined barrel which is a HUGE plus for corrosive ammo. Although I have both and I don't even shoot my sks anymore.

I got one. its OK but nothing special. if you have an AR than you probably dont need it. If you dont have anything sure go for it.

It's kind of like comparing apples and oranges. The AR is a fantastic platform and makes a superb gun for competitive shooting. The SKS, not so much.
I have both, they both have their reasons for being in my lockup.

You are right sir, the only thing I dislike about the cz is the non chrome lined barrel. I wonder why they made it like that in the NR version, especially since they knew that most would be using corrosive ammo.

I suspect it was just made like that to keep the costs down but the thing is I would have paid an extra 100 dollars for a chrome lined bore.

The SKS-D was one of the first rifles I owned but I never shoot it anymore - I have moved onto better things. I would sell mine to get it out of the cabinet but I know that because it is not worth anything I would basically be giving it away. There are a few thigns the SKS has going for it:
1.Cheapness
2.Messing around (practicing gunsmithing, bump firing, etc.)
3.It makes an excellent training rifle for new shooters; every time I take someone new shooting they start on the SKS

As for cleaning with corrosive ammo - don't! Just let it rust away. I clean mine quickly once every couple years, it does misfire the odd shot, but I suspect that is more the fault of the cheap crappy ammo than the rifle. There is always a firing pin mark on the primer.

Can't guarantee the free one but you should still buy one :p

But hurry Offer expires soon!:D

I got an SKS several years ago. Shot it, enjoyed it for what it was, but haven't touched it since I bought my CZ-858. I keep on meaning to take some photos of it and stick it up pn the EE, but frankly, I hardly even remember I have it.

If you can't afford the CZ-858, there is nothing wrong with the SKS; battleproven, rugged, reliable, accurate enough, and amazingly affordable. If you can afford the CZ, though, I honestly wouldn't bother with the SKS; if nothing else, every time a Canadian buys a CZ-858, an anti cries.

When i think of going to the range and shooting off 400 rounds of .308, i want to cry. 7.62 is so dirt cheap that i don't even care that it'll only hold 4moa consistently, because i can shoot all day.

If you're in the Ottawa region PM me and I'll give you a chance to try both the Chinese and Russian versions. They are fun rifles to shoot and maintenance is easy. I can also be easily talked into taking out my cz-858 LOL.
